2nd Gen Sail Panel Tweeter Pod Progress...Clean as they say

I've been doing this shit for over 20 years. I'm glad to pass on any knowledge I've learned over that time period when it comes to fabrication. So the tweeters going into these sail panels are the Scan Speak D30 series. I own both the beryllium and the soft domes and the berylliums will likely end up in this final install. Anyway here are some pictures of the progress so far. They look pretty damn good in person. I'm showing you all the angles and not hiding anything. To get these results is a tedious process. I scuff up the factory panel with 60 grit sandpaper and make some deep cuts in it with a utility blade. I then apply a PolyVance 2020T rigid hard set filler as a base to the panel as it is an epoxy two part filler meant for bumper repairs. It adheres to plastic excellently. From there once you have the foundation properly adhered to the plastic panel you can then go forward with conventional polyester based products which will then be the means to build up your shape with sanding. The polyester based products will successfully adhere to the epoxy foundation...I prefer short strand reinforced fiberglass fillers like Duraglas and Evercoat Everglass. You can use long strand products like Bondo Glass and others but they are going to be more difficult to mange in filling gaps and controlling how well you spreads the product. Once I've shaped/sanded to the point where I want to be be I use SEM Texture spray between two-three coats for a textured OEM look....I finalize with two-three coats of Landau black for a factory look...

Nice work on your pods man I can see a much pronounced angle than mine on your build up
So far I’m looking to change my new morel tweeters up on the a pillar and move from the alate pods

A flush mounted type wedge cup would have probably looked very clean just like those pics you posted. Replicating a factory looking flush cup would have been a custom project even no matter how simple it seems.The issue with these tweeters I'm using is their large footprint.

 

Indeed guys I’ve actually burned those tweeters and getting rid of them. My concern is that the angle of the A pillar would make them slightly facing down. I’ll be working on getting new ones made up so I might try this time on The pillars and let you all know how it goes

 

Message me if you are interested in having me build you a set of custom mounted tweeter sail panels like mine....I've got a friend with a 3rd gen that I can use as a reference for geometery and angle that I can use to complete the finished pods back to you. I would need your factory sail panels with clips and tweeters...I can essentially make quality rings for any given tweeter mounting diameter with my router and circle jig setups....
