I handed the 12 year old the Sawzall and a crow bar. Said "go beast mode, this is not a precision strike.

 

Did water filter service today

Getting to the home stretch on this monster.

I stripped the uppers apart and painted each piece individually and re-assembled. I figured this is better than painting in place because getting into those little nooks with a sprayer is just asking for runs... So when I paint the rest of the unit I'll just mask the uppers off.


I hooked everything together using plywood straps and then little L-brackets that fix the uppers to the studs. Then I added bracing for the head rail.



Head rail was tricky... I took some 1/2" MDF and used dominos and pocket screws to make it 14 1/2 ft long. Had to be super delicate putting it in place but it turned out a lot nicer than I expected. The seam covered up super well with glaze putty.



Added crown and then boxed-out some decorative frames for our gallery lights




Finally I sat for a good couple of days talking myself up to cut the boxes into my head rail... Measured 4 times. Made a cut-out template. Free-handed with a multi tool.


Almost done! Working on baseboards and my decorative paneling for the door way. I'm not sure why I made the doorway design so complicated but hey, I think it'll look good!

 

Update on the shed… The owner of the pavilion job stopped by to inform me this contractor is being arrested by police. He absconded $35k and the owner put out an extra $19k to finish the pavilion

I’ve never had to deal directly with builders or anyone for a project of that magnitude. How do you make sure you don’t end up with one like this?

 

This is absolutely absurd to be that far out of:

 

Home owners want it done cheap and fast. Cheap contractors aren’t experienced, experienced contractors aren’t cheap.

BOOTS on the GROUND 24/7/365/60 is the only way. I've turned my back on a few jobs and its amazing how FAST they can complete their work sometimes.

 

5 yo LG fridge, on its way out of warranty. Stopped fridge-ing. Today, LG repair guy says he can buy it maybe 5 more years with this warranty fix ( new compressor). He said DO NOT BUY ANOTHER LG fridge, their compressors are garbage.

 

Good advice. Don't buy a Samsung either. Water / ice system will fail at 366 day mark.

 

My parents Samsung ran fine for 12ish years then the ice maker went out. My Samsung is almost 3 and so far no issues. Fingers crossed.

 

I have no clue how a homeowner with no knowledge of building gets anything done. I've paid good money and gotten meh results in return. My solution was to learn how to DIY everything.

 

good builders don't need to advertise. most get passed along only via word of mouth. most of the best contractors don't have anything more than a phone number to call, and have a waitlist at least a year long.

 

2 year wait-list and we don't even have shirts with the company name on them. lol
