    The old Subaru is a 97, the engineers did a good job, for the most part these older ones are easy to work on.

    The timing belt on this 06 two cam engine was easier than the 97 four cam.

    That one isn't difficult so much as it is fiddly - you have to keep those 4 cams in the right place when the belt is off and due to spring pressure they want to move.

    The 2 cams just sit there no problem.

    Back when I worked in an auto shop I would place junk sockets on the cam bolts then weld them to a bar. That always got me by on keeping cams in place if the didn't have a place for a flat bar to hold them.

    I bought a special tool to hold them, it worked ok, seems I had to use clamps or something too. :confused:
    That was 9 year ago.
