I see the recall up to the 2019 model year, but has there been any discussion about including 2021? Ours just is 3 years old in April and is leaking in June. The roof and seat damage is pretty bad and not covered by the extended warranty.

And you've verified this with Toyota?

Is the extended an aftermarket one, not an actual Toyota?

I'd consider calling Toyota USA and seeking some help. It's not like your have the 1st failure.

I have a 100,000 mile or 6 year toyota warranty. The vehicle has 44,000 miles on it. I called Toyota and they said there was nothing they could do and the dealer want $1247 just for the light/seal to be fixed. Needless to say when I called the 1-800 number I was not happy. They told me the recall didn’t apply to my model year.

So the warranty covers what? Seems like if was an authentic Toyota warranty you'd be covered.

An aftermarket warranty, sold by Toyota dealers, can have more holes in it than a cheese grater.

I can’t understand why the extended warranty won’t cover this. You need a new dealer

So I understand it’s not aftermarket, but I guess I need to dig out all the paperwork again. They said it not covered because it’s the seal and there is not mechanical failure. If it had happened in the 3 year/36,000 mile period it would have been covered.

Hope it works out for you...,. While the repair itself is not too expensive, the cleanup of mold and replacement / cleaning of materials is pretty pricey

If you don't have interior damage just order the gasket from Fred Haus Toyota via Walmart.com and install it yourself. Permatex black silicone sealant works fine.

edit: I misread your first post about the interior damage. Open a case with Toyota Corporate if you're unable to get anywhere with the dealer.

I would definitely consider pursuing toyota to rectify this. they should repair the leak and repair/replace anything damaged as a result of the leak.

A seal is not a wear item like tires/brakes/wipers nor is it electrical so, why is it not covered ?

Thank you all for asking all of these questions! I am asking them as you do. I have a toyota platinum warranty and nobody can tell me why other than seals are not covered.

You can DL your warranty information on the Toyota owners page.

My third brake light was replaced a year ago, just inside the 12 months for warranty, and now the lens is cracked. What are the chances that is from the dealer's technician messing with it?

A new lens appears to be about $120. So that isn't too bad, but I'd really like for them to repair this.
