Had balance done all four tires 5 times at different locations. Last was at Toyota using force balance. Still had issue, so I went under to examine front drive train. Found excessive play, rattle, and movement in left front CV joint. Axle from wheel to cv is OK, from cv to differential(?) or transfer case(?) is where issue is. Vehicle going in for inspection this week. Seeking possible confirmation of my thoughts. Have mpg video of movement by hand, unable to load video here.
Took to Toyota shop today, they said movement in axle is normal, I asked then why is right one tight and can't be moved. No answer.
They did find metal chips in rear end (other end from original problem), and rebuilt complete rear end, but could not address front vibration. They force balanced all tires.
    What's wrong?

Sounds like the drivers side roller bearing that holds the cv in the diff. Ecgs bushing may be in your future. Common issue tons of threads and info on this forum

If vibration go away in 4Hi, driver side needle bearing on the front differential is starting to go. $180 gets you a bushing that replaces the needle bearing, the tool for extracting, as well as a tool for installing the bushing, and another tool for installing a new seal if you damage the one already there.

Really you can go for a while without changing it, but as soon as the vibration stops, it goes from optional, to, you need to change it, and probably going to want a new CV axle for a clean shaft to bushing interface if you let it get that far.

Are you running aftermarket rims or wheel spacers by chance?

Not sure how to respond to each individual post.
Pnwadventure, thanks for that, I'll keep researching.

Brikan, I'll check the hi 4x and see what happens. Thanks for the good info.

Bandit, all stock, no oversized tires, no lift, nada.

All tacomas do this, its normal, you can fix it with a bushing but it likely isnt your problem.

Search "CV Axle play" on this site and you'll find hundreds of posts.

They have the wiggle new from factory.

If you click on multi quote you can reply to multiple at once. All stock rules out hub centric related issues (rims with wrong hub bore or lug centric spacers will give you nasty vibes)
