They dropped from 5th to 3rd. Toyota says they dropped from 5th to 1st.

I saw that. I wonder if Pops Truck King made an error or Toyota is doing some CYA. To go from 5th to 3rd should be easy. to go from 5th to 1st would take a conscious effort to shove the shifter farther to the left, since it falls "in between" 3rd and 4th as its natural resting position when not in gear.

I think a 5th to 1st would have locked the rearend too, even if just briefly enough and it totally would have redlined.

Looks like they’re trying to copy TFL with the title of the video in order to get channel views.

He was grinding the shit out of it! The kid was even laughing because he new dad grabbed the wrong gear! But he kept trying. I have no doubt Toyota tore into the transmission and saw 1st gear was about trashed, the evidence would be pretty clear. I’ve driven manuals for 25+ years and grabbed the wrong gear more than once and you know right away, not to force it, and move to the correct gear. The headline should read Dad Broke It!

So the manual transmission couldn’t handle the power so they dropped the output by a few HP? This is laughable, and concerning both at the same time.

I also just watched TFL’s video on their explanation of their failure with Chief Engineer Sheldon Brown and he’s claiming their logic exceeded the torque limit by 1.7 percent and that’s why their IC shaft snapped. Sounds like really poor engineering if they are designing these trucks where their operational capacity is almost at the very max of their failure points.

Yeah they cost Toyota a lot of money. If it was indeed user error then Truck King should have paid the repair bill.

Regardless if he hit 1st or 3rd, it’s obvious that Toyota doesn’t make trucks like they used to. I’ve got 180k miles on my 2008 Tacoma and never had a problem with the clutch!

The amount of simps covering for Toyota dropping their quality is insane.

" Oh its alright! its not like these trucks cost over 50k or something! average joe who will put his trust into it can pay the bill if it happens! "

5th to 1st is a totally acceptable reason for the transmission to fail. Nothing quality dropped about that.

Right... the differential also broke on other youtuber because the ground was too rough? should have they adjusted the area so that the 50K truck could perform comfortably?

I don't even want to say.. I literally learned manual on my BMW, I was making that car suffer ,believing that clutch broke because of user failure in that video is insane.

BTW have you watched the video? you can see the gear it was in, just need to know how to drive manual, which you don't know. Just a fakeota fanboy .

So how did he shift into 1st from 5th? He was really slamming the shifter. I had a 1st gen MT and it wouldn't go into 1st if it was moving very fast. I never tried slamming it hard though. It didn't not like being race shifted though, that was immediately apparent.

Anyone wiht a 4th gen able to confirm there is a lockout from 1st gear when its going fast?

Bullshit on Toyota USA’s part. Former clutch driver, and it “appears he did shift into 3rd as for a split second their bodies rose up off the seat, gear engaged, and a fraction later it failed. Had he shifted into 1st, it would have been a much crazier attempt to try and shift into 1st in the first place, let alone the failure(s) up and down the drivetrain while their bodies are forced forward. No forward action whatsoever.

Cheap stuff on Toyota USA’s part.

Does anyone else with the manual routinely shift from 5th to 3rd? I think it's only clowns on YouTube who don't own the vehicles they're driving. Isn't that why the shifter has a "gate" - to go through the gears in a prescribed way?

Wouldn't pulling the stick back from 5 to 4 at 60 mph demonstrate the rev matching in a more realistic way? I don't know if Truck King gets invitations for launches and pressers, but if so, those days are over. Don't mess with the Gods of Toyota!
