Got a 2023 brand new with the OEM automatic tailgate lock from the fob, i am one week literally out of the accesories warranty, it will UNLOCK but not lock, the spot circled in red doesnt move enough, does it look like anything is missing from this photo? sucks only have 5k on the truck and have something i use daily break one week out of warranty, dumb. Any advice? it actually sounds like its moving and moves just barely, lubed it but no avail.

If it's a 2023 with 5,000 miles how can it be out of warranty?

I've seen another threads here that Toyota accessories installed by the dealer or the port had the full 36 month warranty. But maybe those other threads or posts were incorrect?

I was going to say the same thing, this is an option on the truck and an OEM part. Can't imagine they won't fix it for you, even if it technically isn't "covered by the warranty"(which I really have to assume it is). At the very least, that is a quick easy fix for them, so just for customer satisfaction I think they'd want to just fix it for you after only 5,000 miles.

Keep us posted OP, imagine they will take care of ya!

I think it's up to the individual dealer, but Toyota is good about repairing/replacing stuff that is slightly out of warranty. Sometimes WAAAY out of warranty.

I had a rear window leak at just over 2 years of ownership, but about 40,000 miles. My local dealer replaced the window and detailed the interior because of the water leak. Kept the truck 3-4 days to let it dry out and provided a Corolla for me to drive while it was being worked on. At no charge. A different dealer may not have done that.

I replaced a U-Joint at 170,000 miles. A couple of years later Toyota announced that they had some issues with bad U-Joints. They extended the warranty to 200,000 miles and would reimburse anyone who had already paid to have one replaced. I was unable to provide documentation, so I didn't get reimbursed. And to be honest I'd have felt bad taking the money. 170,000 miles on a U-Joint isn't bad IMO. The other 3 are still factory with 248,000 miles on them.

I had rust/leaking transmission line, dealer said not covered and it was like $750 to repair. I said I’ll take it back locally for1/2 that price since they found the issue and quotes before going to the dealer. Well I read what is covered on the extended warranty and oh, transmission lines are part of the drive train(should be covered, printed out the warranty portion on lines) Went back to the dealer and they said no so I insisted they call Toyota while I was there for their comments, well after two escalations on the same call it was covered. you can get it covered, just be nice but firm

Are you sure it’s not just an adjustment issue? I’m not familiar with how it works, but it looks like that linkage has a bolt securing it and maybe it’s a bit loose allowing the linkage to slip out of alignment so it doesn’t move as far?

Are you able to post a video of it not working? I installed the OEM one on my '21 last week, but yours looks different than mine. Also, mine came with a locking nut for that nub on the right side of the "T" bar that goes into that metal slotted piece connected to the locking cylinder.

I'm new to Tacomas but maybe someone on the forum can explain why your lock looks different than the OEM one I bought: PK3B6-35JS0
You can see what it looks like in this install video

I wonder if that arm is adjustable and just needs moved upward a bit, to adjust it's range.

To clarify, this came on the truck as an option or you had them add it before you took it home? Just curious why yours looks different than mine, from the same generation...but I know part designs change over the years.

Did you contact the dealer? I'd see what they say about fixing it for you before you work on fixing it yourself.

Yeah they installed it pre me buying it so it was already on the truck, i bought from gulf states, looks like i got an aftermarket one but it says "tailgate automatic lock" on the truck paperwork nothing about OEM or aftermarket so who knows. so annoying, i hate this back and forth **** from different dealers and networks.

IMO I'd argue it's part of the warranty, seeing as they installed it before you got there. Not even like it wasn't on there and you negotiated it.

I don't have any pictures of mine after installation, but this is a pic of the parts in the kit. I think the only kit that has the foil heat shield on the long cable to the tailgate where it passes near the exhaust is the OEM kit. I installed mine in March of 2020. It still works... knocks on wood... :)

The difference is GST versus SET kits. They’re both PORT installed and not factory installed.

You don’t understand Toyota… do your homework, SET and GST are EXCLUSIVES. Ever wonder why there are Tacoma SX or TSS? Why you can only get them in certain states? There are literally hundreds of port additions that are exclusive to either SET or GST. Why has SET had footwell lighting, but GST hasn’t? GST had tailgate electric before everyone. It was on my first two GST, but isn’t on my 2022 (SET).

    For those wondering…
SET = South East Toyota (AL,FL,GA,NC,SC…etc)
GST = Gulf States Toyota (MS,LA,TX,AR….etc)
