I connected my new Tacoma to the app to try out the Toyota Connection 1 year trial coz I figured what the hell..

Don't really want it but I mean it's free figured I'd try it out.

I read where I have to agree to all this stuff about data collection and it mentioned "sending data to Google" and so immediately I was like nope. no way. I want no part of this.

So I went back to where it asked if I want to try the trial and I clicked "No thanks"

And then this screen telling me I cannot decline "Master Data Consent" until I cancel my Wi-Fi subscription.

I called the number it presented to me shown in the screen shot, and AT&T says that they cannot find my "account" under my email address. They tried to do it under my VIN, but it didn't come up.

Now my VIN also didn't come up in Carfax or in my insurance company when I went to insure the Tacoma. The dealer said this is because it's new.

The guy told me that this shows me that there's no Wi-Fi connection to my vehicle but the Toyota app implies different.

Does anyone else have experience with this? know what this is?

Well, nothing in life is free. They sell your driving behavior to insurance companies.

Am I wrong, but aren't dealers under pressure to sell subscription services? At delivery, they offer to pair your phone and without most people's understanding, sign you up for a "free" year.

No sure why you are having this problem. Thats about the first thing i did after the salesman got all that crap set-up in my truck. I just went into the Toyota app he downloaded on my phone and declined the Master Data and it automatically declined all the other functions including wifi. hope you get it figured out.

I don't even know if it's turned on to be honest. I just deleted the Toyota app on my phone coz it's useless.

When I turn the truck on CarPlay comes on without even needing to take my phone out of my pocket (big W) ..

Someone on the 4th gen Tacoma forum said they pressed SOS and told the person to disable it.. I think it disables ALL data collection but there was caveat where it would also disable calling emergency responders in the case of an accident..

But I mean, the Apple Watch does that.. The iPhone does that now.. I'm sure people at the scene would do that.. doesn't seem like something I need.

I don't really care about Toyota data collection I just didn't want Google getting my GPS stuff. The above mentioned thing sounds like it might mess with too much stuff, so I'm kind of on the fence about it but it's not a huge deal.

My main concern was that it seemed like I couldn't move forward with the app without either solving that problem, or agreeing to have Google know all my shit, but apparently once I backed out, force closed and re-opened the app it just opened up fine and I could see all the stuff about my Tacoma.
