    Mouse proofing
Our 2012 Tundra has now required 2 trips to our mechanic for mice chewing through wires in our fuse box, for a cost total over $500 in 3 months, here in New Hampshire. In all of Toyota's lack of good design there are gaps under the main wires that enter the front and back, that are as big as my thumb. This second time they wrapped all of the wires with a tape that is supposed to be mouse proof, and I foamed the two entrances. There should be a recall!

In 2014 in Colorado we had to have our mechanic install wire mesh (1/2” hardware cloth) over the 4 huge openings in the fire wall behind the cowl. They had chewed away the corner of the plastic flap behind the cabin air filter and were all through the cab.

There is also a nice 4" round opening into the engine filter box that they had chewed the filter up to make a nest there and for a nest behind the cowl. The cowl has many easy entrances for mice to get behind it. Another place for a recall is to simply place a 4" round piece of screen in the round tube. A screen slightly larger than the inside diameter pushed in at the center will hold itself in place and block them out, as I did.

So I checked our 2022 Tacoma for these same issues. Apparently Toyota got the hint and the cowl appears to actually be sealed to prevent mice from entering. I checked the engine air filter box and installed another screen in the same 4" tube that would allow mice in easily.

Don't they have mice in Japan? LOL
