Is it true that you need a Subscription to Toyota Connect to get Sirius XM radio?

I doubt if you need TC to get XM. I don't want to pay for either subscription.

Sirius just sent me an offer for $5 a month for a year. Might consider it.

In 2016, I thought I might not subscribe once the freebee ran out. Not so. I really like it. Well worth the $20 a month.

I could part with $5, I'm just too lazy to click call or write.

I have a Sirius Satellite unit in my 2006 Tacoma (Sold Tacoma last week) Also have Sirius App on my phone which I connect to the radio in my RV when we travel. We like it, ton's of stations.
CAVEAT: If you subscribe to Sirius, keep an eye on your renewal date. They will try and jack you up in price, you have to call or go online with Sirius and threaten to cancel if they don't bring down
the rate. I think I pay $11 a month after about 3 years. My new 2024 4Runner has 3 months of Sirius free.

Going back to my original question...

In my 2017 Tacoma, I just signed up for Sirius & it worked. In reading about the 'Toyota Connect' services, people have said you cannot get Sirius if you're not paying for the additional subscription to Toyota's Service.

Has anyone found this to be true?
