3rd gen / California Tunes

I just got my rig tuned last week. I was researching a few weeks back the pros/cons of a tune on here and asking questions. Pretty much the only con was $500 and the possibility of it not passing California smog. I posted on here asking for thoughts. Anyway, just wanted to update my findings and confirm what the group added, that the ‘tune’ is now legal to pass California smog. Here’s what the Southern California ‘Tune’ rep sent out yesterday:


You've waited, and we've finally made it to the end! The tune you have on your truck now is CARB exempt for the V6 3.5L Tacoma, meaning it is 50 state legal for smog. Did u confirm with the state …? they can say all they want … they are a business not a government entity.

Yeah, I would not trust a vendor either. I also would not trust the State as they totally don't know what they are doing. There should be a State of California website showing the exemptions. Found the State site once for some product, but the exemption did not yet cover the year I have.

 

I'm so glad I live somewhere where I don't have to worry about that stupid 'smog' nonsense....

 

They should have a CARB E.O. number if it's California smog legal

You then should have a sticker showing the CARB E.O. number to stick it somewhere to show that it's legal when you take it to smog
