Uneven tire wear on '22 taco (25k miles) with stock everything

    Generally to much tire pressure will wear out the center of the tire and too little the edges (but not just one side). I agree that its most probably an alignment issue and/or the factory tires tend to be crappy. I replaced the factory Bridgestone Dueler H/T D684 (360BB) with Dueler H/L Alenza plus (800AA). Night and day difference. The tire rack rating on the H/T D684 put it dead last out of 16 highway all seasons. I keep mine at 30 psi cold.

    As mentioned it looks like a camber issue. If it was a toe setting I would have expected to see more feathering.

    Just rotate them yourself. “Alignment” can favor one aspect and still be in the green. I’d suggest you have it aligned to order rather than to spec. Depending on where you live and the kinds of roads you drive the front tires can tend to wear more inside or outside. Rotating won’t do more than get all 4 to wear equally badly.

    I had to replace my stock tires at 15k.

    Bought a set of Wildpeaks, very happy with them.

    I mean, I don’t *think* the amount that I off road is a lot. Once or twice per year on fire service roads to go camping, and then maybe once or twice more per year also on fire service roads to go shooting. Seems like barely anything to me.

    Will definitely update the thread once I get alignment checked. The parking lot at my apartment complex is asphalt, but it’s in pretty rough shape. That’s where the pebbles in the tread come from. Other than that, I can’t remember the last time I drove on gravel.

    I think it’s pretty surprising to only get 25k miles out of factory tires before they drop under 4/32” tread. Especially with no mods or added weight, gentle driving, rotations every 5k, etc.

    Lot of comments saying I shouldn’t be surprised to be under 4/32 at 25k miles, but if you’re still over 4/32 on the same tires at 38k I can’t help but think something must be going on.

    Think I’m going to have the tire shop near me check the alignment and do a rotation.

    I do have one more question for anyone who knows the answer. This is going to reveal how little I know about tires. It’s my understanding that a normal rotation doesn’t actually pull the tire from the wheel.

    If the insides of my 4 tires are more worn than the outside, would it be beneficial to actually swap the tires around on the wheels when doing the rotation? Is that something that’s commonly done?

    It would not be beneficial to swap the tires around on the wheels. Dismount and remount costs money on tires that aren't worth more than a few 1000 more miles before Fall. You need tires one way or another. How they ended up with uneven wear and looking like a chew toy is anyone's guess. Probably a combination of things. Just pick out new tires and get an alignment and go from there.

    Uneven wear could be an alignment issue, but the overall wear and tear and state of the tires pictured is pretty close to what my stock tires were at 25-30K. The stock Wranglers really don't up well to much off pavement, and I had more or less chewed mine up by around 30K when they were missing chunks of rubber and wearing low enough for me not to want to drive during the next winter wet season.

    There's nothing wrong, don't over think it. The Stock Wranglers are junk. They were a special build request from Toyota to Goodyear to meet Toyota's standards based on MPG (weight), cost, and aggressive looks (side lugs). Tire wear and durability was the lowest concern to them. If they were to make to 40K, that would be a miracle (grandma driver). If you look the Goodyear website, the don't even state a mileage warranty like the others. BTW - I already had to replace one at 5K due to a screw. It was too soon to replace them all. The manager at Goodyear acted like he knew those were junk tires

    When looking to replace my Firestones at 15k, and whining about it, the dude at Discount Tire told me,...
    and with full disclosure I have no idea if this is true.... anywho he told me that these OEM tires are manufactured
    with a 'softer compound' to give the test-rider a 'softer smoother ride'. If I were to replace the OEM tires with
    the same Firestone (From Firestone not OEM Tire) he said I'd get way better life out of them.

    For a few dollars more and a better look I put the Wildpeaks on and really like 'em.

    I am just about 30k on my 2021 with the same stock Wranglers. I wouldn't call these tires "junk." Not the best tire I've ever run but they have been OK in all weather situations and the light offroad driving they have seen. I am a little disapointed at how fast they are wearing, but sounds like that is the expected life of these tires. I will get to 40K with them and will probably look to replace before next winter. But they don't look as chewed up as yours and only slight uneven wear. I did have to get an alignment around 25K.

    For you I would get an alignment then just drive them the rest of the summer and pick out new tires before any winter weather hits (depending where you live). On my previous 2nd gen taco I went with Cooper Discover AT3 and I was very happy with them.
