So I just gave my tires and rims a thoroughly washing, and I was wondering what the thoughts are of using dressing on the tires? Do you leave them free of the gunk, or do you make them look all shiny?

I occasionally use some Son Of A Gun foaming spray, after washing. BUT, with that brand, I spray it on, let it soak for a minute and then wipe it off. It's nice and clean/black, but it doesn't look like it's soaked with whale sperm.
I don't like the shiny wet look that flings crap all over when you drive.

I'd go for some Raspberry Vinaigrette. It sounds fancier like I'm at one of those rich people restaurants with 3 forks.

Just FYI Water Based Dressings will run/drip in the rain, ex: you put some on your trim it will run/drip on the paint after a rain. Oil based is a little on the shiner side and must be put on thin so that it does not fling. This is just my experience others here may have different experiences with what they use. I have used both and haven't found THE one yet to stay with. So far the best tire applicator that I have found is a $1 store sponge cut into about 3"x4" piece, keep it dedicated for the tires.

Yes. But not crazy glossy stuff. Good products will not only improve the look of your tires but also provide UV protection. Most of the higher end, quality products out there are not super shiny. Many are specifically matte finish with the intent of the tire just looking like brand new rubber, not some high gloss paint job.

I like to use a tire product to help protect/preserve the tires and also get rid of the brown color that develops from "tire bloom." There are also products out there specifically designed to remove bloom.

Yes, I'm that guy who details my truck and shines my tires before taking a camping trip only to cover the entire truck in dirt and pinstripes. Just because you're gonna get it dirty doesn't mean you shouldn't keep it clean between adventures. People that think a dirty vehicle is a source of pride are probably also walking around with skid marks on their underwear

    None... yet.
I used to do that with my sporty cars, but quickly realized the effort and $$ were not worth the result...

Right there with you on the UV protectant. My truck parks outside and gets beat by the sun so the protectant really helps. I do prefer a tire gel but not in excess as '2001Tacoma' mentions above to prevent sling.

This product is awesome... doesn't leave any oily residue or shine. Applied to tires a few days ago... highly recommend. DSCN0877.jpg DSCN0876.jpg

I did that stuff back when I was a teenager, but quickly realized that driving on gravel roads and dirt, etc. quickly made a thick layer of gunk stuck to the side of the tires.

I use the Black Magic spray can stuff, but it has the side effect of collecting dirt even faster through its siliconey residue so I only really use it as a cleaner and then hose it off after (some still sticks).
