No DRL on US Spec 2012 TRD OR - Should There Be?

Swooped up my new-to-me '12 and couldn't be happier with it. Best mod I could do to my 3G!

Ok, well maybe one odd thing - I actually like the amber DRL's, and to my surprise, it either doesn't have them, or they don't work. I can't seem to come up with a clear answer on if it should or not (I was under the assumption that after such and such year, they were mandated, but maybe not?). Should a US spec '12 TRD-OR 6MT with the towing package have these, or was it part of an optional package or something? On my '03 Subaru there is a little module under the hood that runs the DRL show; is there something like that I can look for to see if I have a problem, or just don't have them? Fuses all checked out, so I've got that covered at least..

If your truck has the Tow Package then by default it should have the 12 pin Flasher Relay that has DRL.

The DRL is the same filament in the bulb as the front turn signals, maybe someone disabled them by cutting the wire from the Body ECU?
My 14 has a DRL Off detent on the headlight switch but some earlier models didn't have that.

 

I did forget this truck had a medium severity deer strike at one point; although oddly the docmuentation I got from the owner states they put an aftermarket hood on, but it's stamped TOYOTA and has the stickers and such on the underside..are these VIN stamped by chance? Maybe something got damaged and not repaired. Is this relay under the hood? Sounds like I have some poking and prodding to do..

 

My '13 5 lug has the same.

Happy for it, as I'm not really a DRL fan anyway.

 

I just had replace bulbs on my ‘12 one blew make sure there 4157NA.

 

Mine does not - it just has off, parking lights and headlights. It's a VERY early '12, 9/2011 build. It does not seem to auto off either, which I am glad I happened to catch one night. This is the first car in a loooooooong time I've had that I have to remember to turn the lights off; if that can be retrofitted, I would certainly like that.

 

OP, your Deer stricken Taco might have hidden damage in the Main Body ECU (cab). It controls the DRL function and the Lights Auto Off.
