I just installed the cowl intake from OPT offroad. When the engine moves as it goes thru different rpm, especially from a stop it’s making a rubbing noise on the rubber gasket that is able to be heard from inside the cab. Does anyone have a solution for this? Maybe my engine mounts are too old, pretty sure they are original from 2005 (230k miles) but they don’t look like they have too much play. I fixed one of them a few years ago because it punched thru the frame. Repair is still holding strong.

I'd be amazed if at 19 years and 230K miles that any of the rubber in your engine mounts wasn't worn out. Easy way to check, have someone watch your engine while you slowly rev the engine while in gear. If the engine moves more than an inch then your mounts are worn out.

I was looking yesterday, in reverse it looks fine, but drive I think it moves a bit more than its supposed too. Is it worth upgrading to solid engine mounts since I'm already going to be in there?

Not unless you really want to feel all the vibrations of the engine. If it's just an offroad rig then it won't be as much of a problem but if this is street driven solid mounts are not fun.

I do drive it on the street a lot. But I also have a daily so it doesn’t matter too much. Solid mounts are like $400 tho .

That's not too bad compared to the $260 for all three stock mounts. I personally don't like solid mounts if I street the vehicle but it's personal choice.

Good luck. I have black duct tape wrapped around mine where it goes into firewall. Lasts a few months and will wear itself down and rattle. Will wear out quicker when offroading. Worse in reverse.

I chased this noise for a few weeks and thought it was the poly bushings on my relocated cab mount. Over bumps it was the worst. The engine moves over bumps.

BTW I replaced both motor mounts when I did my engine swap and supercharger install.

Try wrapping the end in duct tape and make it as snug as possible.

Mine isn’t making the noise over bumps, only rpm changes. Especially when first putting it into gear. Wonder if I should use a flexible rubber pipe instead of the metal one and the bolt it to the cowl entrance.

    Mine started as a creaking/groan.

    Try the duct tape method

I’m going to try the duct tape today. Just pains me when I have to use tape or zip ties for a fix. My inner engineer is not a fan haha.

I'm the same way. But I had to come to grips with that fact that a hollow metal tube constantly rubbing anything is going to cause a noise or need adjusting frequently

They will be in between stock and solid mounts. Not as much vibration will be transmitted to the body as solid mounts would be more than stock, and definitely more than you are currently getting with the worn ones.

I had the same issue, but resolved it by cutting the aluminium tube in half and shoving a rubber intake hose in its place.

It was caused by the hole saw I used being 1-2mm too large or I filed / de burred way too much.
So the rubber grommet eventually came loose and rattles itself on the sheet metal. No matter how many pieces of e-tape or glue I used.

After the fix it now sits very snuggly no more vibrations, or rattling. However this makes changing the engine filter a tiny bit more painful. Now that everything is snug.

Here is the part I purchased. The part was too long so I cut it with a brand new box cutter to length.

I have those. Because they were cheap. So far so good, but can’t speak as to their longevity. Install was annoying because of the tight spaces. They’re also not that rowdy. My truck is already loud AF, added maybe a tiny bit of vibration at idle but made up for by less twist than my clapped out stockers that would allow the headers to hit the UCA gussets under throttle.
