2024 OEM Tube Step Opinions/Pics

Hello. I'm ready to buy tube steps, predator steps or running boards for my black 2024 TRD Sport. I would like to stick with OEM versions. I haven't found any pics of the black factory tube steps (PT938-35240) installed. If you have them would you please post some pics and give me your thoughts on them? Thanks!

I have the Cast Aluminum TRD running boards and really like the look of them compared to the other Toyota offerings. If you don't need the protection of a slider, I'd go with those.

I'm waiting to see the Toyota Sliders in person myself because I think they look a little small like they wouldnt make a very good step.

Just depends on your needs.

 

I had the tube steps on my 2020 Tacoma. All they did was get my pant legs dirty because I didn't use them to get in or out of the truck. I don't believe they protect the truck from door dings in tight parking spots. YMMV

 

Are you interested in a specific function or just looks?

 

I have the factory black tube steps on my 2023 Tacoma and they look different from the PT938-35240 for the 2024. No taper/bend at the ends like the previous gen. Since even the 2wd models are 4+ inches higher on the gen3 than the gen2 they are helpful but could be better. I was hoping to get some machined aluminum blocks to lower them a bit and kick them out even 3/4" but 2 of the mounts are angled and one is flat with the bottom of the floor so it can't be done. When wearing boots you can't get you foot far enough forward without hitting the small rocker panel. I haven't seen an aftermarket step that is similar but would mount in the position that would be best for me.

 

They are tube steps so if you like tube steps you will like these tube steps. At 6'4" they just get in my way, but my 5'5" wife loves them and that makes them worth it because no one wants an unhappy wife am I right. Before and after:

 

Wow. I appreciate the photos and feedback. My main need is helping shorter/older people get into the truck. I'm also concerned that I'm being "hard" on the seat bolster when I enter/exit. As several have stated, my wife is 5'2" and she struggles getting in and out of the truck. With a price difference of over $500, I'm leaning toward the tube steps vs. the running boards. I'd love a set of AMP power running boards, but that's a discussion for another topic and another day! Thanks again!

 

I'm in the same boat - short and old . I had the oem tube steps in previous Gen 2 and the plastic ends ultimately came off because i kept, kinda, slipping off them when I washed the vehicle. Hence i replaced them with black Westin Pro Trax 6" nerf bars (I would recommend them, they're welded on the ends) and it solved my issue. Moving forward, I purchased the Go Rhino Dominator D6 running boards to take care of the mount and dismount from the truck (also helps with car door dings.) I original thought they extended too far from the truck, but after i installed them, it was the right choice (for me.) Here's a pic.

 

fast1981, whatever you decide to buy, use the forum's vendors and reference that you're a member. They have provided me excellent pricing (better than open market.)

 

I almost ended up on my head, that flat part should go completele down the side step, not have that middle part missing. The trd steps look good with the rhino liner when new, when it gets dirtly good luck cleaning it, and the predator steps will be rusty in a few years.
