More so with a high maintenance vehicle like a BMW, but the story is true for any vehicle ( or tool ) that you own. I always buy my vehicles new. I treat them well and drive them for 10-15 years. If I were a rich-man I would just buy a new one every 2-3 years and let someone else deal with the 'issues'. I find and pay quality independent shops to work on my vehicles, and I always tip the dude's, ( or chicks ) who work on them. Trust me, these small tips are never expected and always appreciated, and I get excellent treatment and extra quality work when I show up.

Same with any 'appliance' or 'tool' I buy the best that I can afford, and never go cheap on these items. They say you only cry once. I spent almost double the amount of a standard name-brand dishwasher for a Bosch, and 6 years later it still works well and I can't hear it run. My next washing machine will be a speed-queen.

I think you misunderstood my post #35. I said keep the corolla and sell the 2500. If you think a 1500 or 150 cannot do what a 2500 does then you sure shouldn't be looking at a Tacoma. You said 2 options "two options keep the corolla and get a third vehicle, or trade/sell the corolla and get a 1/2ton ". You actually have a 3rd. Keep corolla, sell 2500 and get a 1/2 ton. There are lots of good buys on new 1/2 tons at 10% or more off of 2023 and many 1-2 year old used in great shape with options you need like towing. Probably much less than 40K and then add in the price of the sale of the 2500.

My thoughts exactly when I read that post.

OP: do you want to keep or replace the 2500? And if you keep the 2500, why do you need a less capable truck?

Was there any spike in the COVID era truck problems? If it was anything like where I work, there were continual supply-chain issues.

I understood your quote, but you must think I live in a large city. I have stuff that a half ton cannot handle so you option would be sell the 2500 and everything that a 1/2 cannot handle and get a half ton, then spend 3 times on replacing those with something that can be towed by a half ton or legally hauled by a half ton.. Where I commute, there are elk and a few deer crossing the highway, almost lost the skid plate(plastic cover) because of a deer that a semi took out. and was in the middle of the lane just past the on ramp.

I considered the tacoma for two reason a few people at work love them and some commute with them. Plus toyota's reputation.

The only reason I am considering a less capable truck, is around here most shops are 2 -3 weeks out. So if something happens that I cannot repair, or some crappy driver slams into my truck or my car, or wildlife runs in front of me, I am not putting excess miles on a truck that costs a lot to replace, or stuck unable to go places because of the ground clearance of the corolla. If my corolla was getting 40 to 45 mpg instead of 32-33 I wouldn't even consider trading it. I would be looking at trucks that were in a certain price range and going for the third. Here's the thing I see if I can get a truck that average 25, 7-8 mpg isn't much, about 50 a month. Replacing it with a truck that averages 18 or less, better off keeping it, insurance and license is cheaper on a third vehicle...

If a half ton won't work for you cause too light then a Tacoma will be even less capable. Maybe you should consider Tundra.
