I am installing an anytime front camera on my 2023 offroad.
Am attempting to get down to bare metal to locate the circular opening through the firewall.
I am down to the last layer of the fabric floor mat material
There is a raised block of foam that has a couple of openings with what looks like plastic clips holding down the foam block.

I have attempted to rotate these pins with my finger and a large screwdriver blade and can do that but so far I have not been able to pull the block off

I do not want to apply brute force to this in order to remove.

Can anyone familiar with this model Tacoma tell me what I am doing wrong?

Got to be a simple answer, I just do not want to tear up the foam block.

    many thanks

Maybe carefully fish the wires thru from the Engine side?
its not too hard to do. You can add some silicone to reseal the hole?

Sounds like you're in the wrong place. Right behind the brake pedal, there is a rubber grommet with the main wiring harness running through it. From the engine bay side, just snip a small slit with the very end of a scissors or puncture this grommet with a punch. Either way you do it, BE DAMNED CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE ANY WIRES. It can happen really easily. Once you have a hole, slip a piece of heavy wire (12 ga solid works real well) through the hole. Tape the wires you want to pull through to that wire as smoothly as you can and pull them through.

From the engine bay, you'll see it right below the master cylinder.

You do not need to pull up any carpet. Also, when you push the wire through from the engine bay (suggest you tape it to a piece of coat hanger), be very careful. It will enter the cabin on the left side of the dash about the level of the steering wheel. POP THE SIDE COVER OFF THE DASH - this is super easy to do and will help you fish the wire(s) through because you can then see it.

this image shows the foam block
just above is the glued in mat and the raised circle of the firewall opening (hard to see but there is a pin in the center that holds down the side panel) I want to expose
    hope this helps

I believe that is there to somewhat prevent pressing your left foot on the fuse blocks, more of a dead pedal situation. The hole you are looking for should be up and to the right of this piece with the main body wiring harness as @OldSchlPunk suggested.

I think you are looking too far down. The firewall opening is higher up. As others have noted, start from the engine side. The gasket around the harness should have a nipple. That's there to run auxiliary wires, just cut off the tip or make a slit in the nipple.

I have a 2023 OR and have never seen the "foam block." I have run a bunch of wires through the firewall and used the main harness port, and the small rubber grommet you can see from the engine compartment. I'm assuming that you are looking for the path to pass your wires way too low.

That foam block is what is confusing to me.

Not sure why it is there but for me I rest my left foot on it most of the time.

interesting that timw1 has the same model I have and I have the foam block under the top layer of the fabric floor mat and he does not.

Yes, I want to use the main wire port to run my anytime camera wires through the firewall and up to the front grille.

I did buy my off road late in the model year and the salesman had to search pretty hard for it. I wanted the SR5 with the major 4WD add on stuff and the OR model was the closest setup to what I wanted that was available when he did the search.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

You are in the wrong place. I just installed my Anytime Camera the other day, in my 2023 TRD OffRoad. You have to remove bottom side corner plastic trims near the driver side door pillar area where your foot is. You would see where rubber grommet is.

Thanks STEELeR45 for the photo and comments.

That information finally got me to the right place to look
looking from inside I thought I was in the correct spot but obviously was way off

I found the rubber covered entry hole, pushed a Phillips head screwdriver right next to the metal side
of the opening through the rubber from inside and now the screwdriver is visible in the engine bay. Now I can use my wire fish tape to pull the camera wires into the engine bay.

I appreciate all the help, STEELeR45 comments and photo finally got through to me.

Tacoma World I appreciate your format big time.
