    For probably the last 2,000-3,000 miles my truck has been making this whining noise at idle when the the transmission is in any position other than P or N, and under acceleration. I thought it was the solely the serpentine belt and pulleys/tensioners (these did need to get replaced), but replacing those only temporarily alleviated the sound. The sound is now back with a vengeance and the transmission is straining on hills. My mechanic has tracked down the noise to the tranny oil pump, and while this could be replaced, my transmission oil is dark and smells a bit burnt.

    At just over 203K miles on the original transmission, since the tranny would have to be removed to replace the pump anyway, I have deemed it best to replace the whole transmission.

    My mechanic has scored me a used tranny out of a totaled truck with 62K miles for like two grand installed, and it comes with a 3-year warranty on parts and 50% of labor. It will take about three days to do the job due to the amount of work he has at the shop.

    With the new job, I can easily afford a new transmission without dipping into my savings! My truck burns oil at roughly one quart every 3,000 miles and has literally nothing else wrong with it, not to mention that fact that it got a new frame and all it entails under the recall, and it was a gift from my parents that’s been in my family since new and has been paid off for almost twelve years!

    @steelcity2

    The sticker price on my truck when new (2010, purchased on September 30th, 2009) was just over $17K I believe. My dad negotiated quite a bit, got $2,300 for the 1996 Nissan Pathfinder he traded in, and ultimately got my truck like $14,900 after all that. My dad could have easily paid cash for the truck, but it was the middle of the recession, and it was a buyer's market. Due to his perfect credit score, my dad got an interest rate from Citadel of just 0.9% percent APR! He paid two grand cash up front and financed the rest, then ended up paying off the truck in either late 2012 or early 2013. The title was signed over to me in December 2016 as a surprise early Christmas present and the truck has been legally mine ever since; I pay for insurance, routine maintenance, and probably 85% of unscheduled repairs since the frame was replaced...

    Nice story,from what I've read you have been taking great care of the truck! Although getting long in the tooth there is lots of life left in it.

    I would love to have certain safety features like automatic braking and the little blind spot warning lights in the sideview mirrors, but interest rates for a loan on a decent used vehicle are sickening (7%-9%), even for someone with good credit like mine (low 780s)!

    Good morning Pennsylvania and surrounding areas. On the topic of yesterday my house is run on all window units. The house was built in 1898 first it was my grandfather's house than my father's now mine. Normally we only run the kitchen ac during the day for the dogs cause that's were they hangout when Noone is home. And my room ac stays on cuz my room has to be the hottest room in the house. Also I don't want to over heat my snakes I keep it at 72 on eco mode. Also picking up another snake today after work from my mother's work friend it was her sons but he got locked up and won't be home for some time. I wasn't planning on owning anymore snakes guess it was fate. Damnit so this will be snake number 5. Anywho everyone that works outside stay hydrated seems like it's gonna be another hot one today.

    Good morning PA. Speaking of a.c., we finally got central air in 2016. If it was up to my wife, we would have never got it. We didn’t even have window units the first few years we lived here. My house is not insulated well. I called a few companies last year but the quotes were much higher than I expected. What I do expect is an outrageous electric bill for the next few months, especially with most of my appliances running on electricity. I’ll have to make things up by eating ground beef and chicken and pasta for dinner.

    Morning PA! We've got all window AC's too, pretty poorly insulated 1950's ranch. Plus is that you can run them independently of each other. It's nice not having to keep the areas we don't use cool. $100 summer electric bill vs the $450 we have in the winter from electric baseboard heat... I'll take it!

    Yeah I've heard fuel oil prices are insane. How does it compare to off road diesel? I'd be tempted to just fill it up with the red stuff if it's significantly cheaper.

    Reminds me of a story my coworker told me about his neighbor... Fuel oil truck delivered the gas to the wrong house (his). Still had hookups but no tank because they'd switched to a different source of heat. Filled his basement with hundreds of gallons of oil, everything needed to be stripped out and they were in a hotel for months.

    It's a little bit higher for offroad. Been doing that for the past couple winters, about 15 gallons at a time. That however has gotten old, so I'm just biting the bullet and having a company fill it. Hopefully they don't go to that stupid bio blend states further North are doing. It does a number to the filters and rots out the tanks faster.
