The manufacturers are changing it so they can burn more oil without complaints. It reminds me of the f150 I traded in that burned quite a bit. They changed the dipstick

I find the dipstick accurate, no need to sand or anything.

What I do is, I make sure I park on a level ground. After turning off the engine, I remove the dipstick and wipe it clean. I wait 15 to 20 minutes to let all the oil go down the pan. The residue oil that went to the dipstick pipe will also drain down. I put the dipstick back all the way, wait 1 to 2 seconds, pull it back out... it should give you a clear reading, make sure you look at it at different angles as light plays with it sometimes.

I also noticed my new Taco was overfilled from factory with more than half a quart of oil.
My question is, if this was deliberate and Toyota expects the engine to burn a little more oil during break in period.

A mechanic once told me a little over is ok. He said how much oil is in the pan at 70mph.

Leaving the dip-stick out for 10 minutes seems to allow for 1 accurate oil level reading . (Only one!) The next readings then seem to always show higher than that first which makes us think the end of the dip-stick is 'dragging' oil up into the end of the tube which then is transfered onto the 'stick' during the rechecks . (Hopefully that makes sense!)
Other than that goofy reading dip-stick , we really like our Tacoma .
Hopefully everyone had a Great 4th of July weekend and possibly had a minute to thank a Vet .

Drain the oil pan until it stop then thread the bolt back in by hand and move to the filter. Once the filters changed, remove the drain plug again. Seems to release some pressure and it will drain a little more. Fill 6.2turn the truck on until your oil light goes off (or all your normal start up lights to give it time to fill your oil filter) then shut it off. Let it sit a minute and check your levels. Overfilled a little isn’t going to hurt it. If you put the right amount in, there shouldn’t be an issue.

I use Mobil 1 Truck & SUV, it has a brown tint and makes it easier to read on the dip stick. Also, try using a dispenser that you can pre-measure to make it fool proof.
