Hi guys, this is my first time posting so I really appreciate any advice here!

I bought recently bought a 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport. The previous owner had made a few modifications - one of which is installing an aftermarket exhaust system. I believe it is the "Rough Country Dual Cat-Back Exhaust". I really like the way to exhaust looks but it is too loud for my daily commuter. Is there anyway to just swap out the muffler with the OEM muffler? Or will I need buy an OEM exhaust system and change out everything?

    Thanks!

You’ll need to buy the OEM one. Luckily, I see them going all the time for dirt cheap locally so shouldn’t be out too much $$.

for example…here’s one locally to me I found $40

If you’re patient, do searches, and willing to drive a bit, you can probably find a nearly new stock exhaust for free. You might also find somebody that thinks they want that crappy aftermarket junk and wants to trade.

You can't just swap the muffler with a stock one since its not dual exit like your aftermarket one. You have 3 basic options depending how much you want to tone it down.

    1. Get a different single entrance dual exit muffler. You'll need to hop under and get some basic measurements but I think you'd be able to find a quieter muffler for cheapish.
    2. Add resonators and see if that gets you where you want to be
    3. Replace with a stock/pro exhaust

Put up an ad on Facebook Marketplace, and find a sucker who will swap with you on the condition that they pay for the install.

    Seriously!
