Not an iota of detectable difference.
Still going to 5th at 38 mph. 6th at 46.
Tuner promised "this will fix all that,"

    I feel grossly misled.

I know 3rd gen guys who have had OTT installed and reported improved shifting. It might be a problem with the installer. There seem to be different options for the tune.

    Yep.
What are your tuned shift speeds or rpms? How about some hard numbers please....
Grilled two tuners on phone for 30 to 40 minutes beforehand. Both could not give rpm or speed range of shifts saying there are many data points. Come on, it's easy to see when it shifts using the Scangauge... or your posterior sensor.

I didn't pay $500 to drive around at 900 to 1100 rpm all the time. Not safe, cannot get out of way in traffic.

It sounds like you want something that isn't really possible. The truck is going to shift to a higher gear under low load. The tune is supposed to help erratic shifting, especially on the highway.

What exactly do you consider unsafe?

I've responded to your demand email. As babybilly stated, shifting is based off of multiple variables including accelerator angle / speed / load

So, I can't tell you when your truck will shift and that target changes with the variables at play.. So if you are light on the accelerator angle, the truck will upshift as its designed from OEM and we maintain that design and manipulate it to what we believe is appropriate. While its good for most, some people won't like it or assume it should do something different, and that's why I offered you a custom trans mapping which you didn't want.

I've taken option B from your demands, so please meet up with your retailer, get tuned back to stock and receive your refund. I apologize that our calibration did not meet your specific needs.

    Kind regards,

    john~

John, your calibration is fantastic and my shifting is right on. Love my custom tune. The only thing I want to change is line pressure increase. If this ever comes to fruition please let us know.

Much appreciated. We will keep you posted if that comes about or we are able to add it by other means.

    Max8,
Had my 2023 TRD OR DCSB tuned with a bout 1000 miles on it; it was like getting a different truck. Had tunes on several earlier Tacomas, to date, this is the best. I have the lite mild throttle and it "moves" quickly and responsively. The more foot pressure the longer it holds gears. Cruses effortlessly on I-25 (Colorado) maintaining 6th gear well. Down shifts are smooth, direct and precise. I did a lot of research, the OTT is the best for me.
    Cheers
    Bob

Shift points are easy. There’s upshift and down shift. There based on speed and accelerator position/load. Do your homework and find out where you want the truck to shift at for each gear up and down. Total of 10 shift points for 6 gears and each shift point table, depending on vehicle, will have 10 inputs. Ask your tuner to send you each shift map, and have you fill in the blanks on where you want it to shift at, problem solved.

From following along I ~ think ~ you may be talking about how the 2nd gen works. The 3rd gen (from everything I've read) does not shift linearly through the gears and has a more complex algorithm.. the maps can decide to shift from 3 to 5th.. etc. Perhaps one of the 3rd gen tuners can weigh in on the specifics.

I can open up a 04b04 map tonight and show you what I mean. It’s not complicated by any means.

Shift points, super easy. This is from the stock 04b04 file, primary engine warm, downshift and upshift schedule. The 2D tables are based off of speed and accelerator angle. For OP, if his tuner just adds 5 to each table, it would probably solve his issue of being too low rpm. Maybe some other lower end adjustments to keep the rpm higher. I wouldn’t go further than +5 on the upper end, it’ll start reaching rpm fuel cut, and could exceed knock learn.

Can you explain the tables? Obviously you have speed and accel angle, but how do the colors play in?

    Nothing else.
Other things, accel is throttle position.
OVTune converted output shaft speed to kph or mph
These 2D tables are not the final authority for the transmission shifting, otherwise it would not that complicated to dial in.
There are another set if the tables that control shifting.
But, in service manual stated that tranny follows its own shift schedule and ecu checks values against tables.
