    Working now a list
Can anyone confirm max trailer hitch tongue weight for the 3RD Gen TRD Off Road with tow package.

The dealer is saying 300 pounds but data online says both higher and lower max weight numbers.

    Thanks

I’m not aware of an official tongue weight spec published by Toyota. I would just use the max payload of the truck (varies by truck) and maybe subtract a bit because the weight is at the farthest point behind the rear axle.

It is also usually a dynamic weight, so maybe subtract even more.

EDIT: the hitch might have a tongue weight spec, but I don’t think that it is that simple as I described above.

EDIT: a weight distribution hitch changes the equation.

10% to 15% of the towed trailer weight to a max of 650#.

The brochure specs chart. Its always fixed at 10% of tow cap, so 680 for 2WD models, 650 for 4x4.

The manual contravenes this by saying the hitch weight should always be 9-11% of net trailer weight, which is the truer statement.

I think the driver door had frozen shut by that point in the "unofficial" testing.

650lbs of tongue weight without a weight distributing hitch will be miserable

Agreed, but I have done the whole 6,500lb towing capacity without the sway bar on the hitch. I-5 from Sacramento to Seattle and beyond, amazed at how many hills/mountains were on that trek.

I'm sure that wasn't very fun. What kind of load?
