So my truck was parked outside and a semi truck drove by and took some cables with it which in turn made a post fall onto my truck, the damage is mainly on the rear passenger side and roof. I am awaiting the adjustor from insurance and see what they say.
I just cant find anything online to use as a reference and im worried that it might have to be totaled since from what i see the cab frame looks like its just 1 piece to me. Hoping someone has more knowledge on this and thank you in advance for the help! Anything is fixable, question is how interested is insurance in spending the money? Ultimately, it's the trucking company's responsibility, but talk to your agent for assistance.

Looks to me to be a door and at least a roof, maybe the whole cab at that point.

it looks to me like the cab itself is dented, maybe this is a better picture. Is the cab one piece that wraps around through the back and then meets the fenders up front? Or is there multiple pieces? 4374F640-EB81-459F-8F17-3E01F7180DCF.jpg

The cab is made of several stampings, welded together. A lot of shops don't like to replace the roof because it's time consuming and can be a liability in case of another accident. If something isn't perfect, the cab may not work as Toyota designed.

Insurance will likely say it’s totaled. You could pay someone to straighten it and try and make it open and close properly but to do it right it would be thousands…

Fixable, but given the high value of Tacomas in the secondary market and SR trim level… I’m going to say totaled. Do your own comps to counter their low offer. Don’t forget enhancements you made (which are additions to value).

I would ask if the door will ever seal correctly again after a fix.

Damn. That's gonna leave a mark for sure.

Did the offender stick around or did he keep-on-trucking without knowing it even happened.

These semi's usually carry a lot of insurance - start snooping around for a new V6 4WD 2023....

Only if the roof or cab are replaced. There's no straightening that reliably, that's why I say roof or cab replacement.

He stuck around and I got all his insurance information, I have only had little contact with their insurance but they have already started saying they dont know if theyll be liable for it “because lines are supposed to be at a certain height” they said they are investigating it but lines were already down from the hurricane and the trucker decided to drive through them…

Get your insurance involved pronto... They will act as your representation in this matter. Don't do what I did and try to take on an insurance company by yourself. they will stonewall the shit out of you and delay the whole process.

That's BS. Driver may not be ticketed if the lines weren't high enough, because there are specifications for that in the local and state building codes. The driver is still responsible to pass through without hitting. If there is any question, you go around another way. They are liable because their driver hit the lines. He'll likely be fired because of this, because he caused the accident. I recently retired as a driver.

Talk you your insurance and maybe contact a lawyer, you'll definitely need your insurance and may need a lawyer. Trucking companies think they can bully people into accepting less to save themselves a lot of money.

Above all else, and what we say on this forum, your insurance company is the first person you should have spoken to. You are paying them to be the expert representing you.

    THIS ^^^^^^^
If you have Collision you can go through your own insurance and subrogate for your deposit back. It takes the headache off you. Otherwise you’re going to be doing a fair bit of work. Lawyers only smell blood when injuries. I don’t see that here, so it’s going to be a slow battle if it’s you vs them. Thank goodness it looks still drivable if you had to.

totalled. the door opening damage represents a major portion of the crash structure of the cab. you can't entirely un-dent a pop can.

it's absolutely fixable-- toyota has documented repair procedures for the entire truck. but all insurance companies warranty their approved repairs for the life of the vehicle-- there's no way they'll want to open themselves up to that significant of a liability for a future personal injury claim(if the crash structure folds up on someone because of unforeseen damage, or improper repair technique) when they can just pay it out less than $60k now and wash their hands of the entire situation.
