When I throw my truck in reverse it makes a weird vibration noise. I’ve only noticed this since i’ve put my 3” lift and 33’s on. Wonder how it could’ve caused something like that so fast. It’s only been a month. Noise goes away in all other gears except reverse. Any ideas or suggestions?

Is the noise prominent when stationary or moving?

Broken engine mounts , broken transmission mounts .
Everything gets twisted in the opposite direction when you are in reverse .
Open the hood , hold the brake pedal and select reverse , Then give the truck some gas ? How much does the engine lift ?
    Are you automatic ?
assuming you are coming to a complete stop before you select reverse ?
A lot of members at Tacoma World find out the hard way.
That will rip apart a driveline real quick .

@Flo_TRD07 noise only happens when stationary. It is very subtle but I can definitely hear a difference from other gears.

@gearcruncher it’s looking like it is my u joints. Due to the lift the driveshaft is in an awkward angle. Do you have any experience with this? Any part recommendations

Check carrier bearing mount. Might be lose. Or need a spacer to drop it down a little so you have less angle.

I kind of had the same issue awhile back. Had a vibe only when stationary in reverse. I replaced my idler pulleys and steering pump and that helped the issue. Next is my alternator. Amazing what sounds are related to what when they seem to have nothing to do with each other. Also what @B3RM4N said ^^^ sounds like a carrier bearing spacer is needed. I definitely needed one after my lift

If the noise only happens when stationary I'm not understanding how it's the ujoints.

@AllTacosFloat Noise is very sporadic. I’ve just finished a drive and heard it while moving in reverse. It all happens at different times. But my main concern was when it is stationary since it happens so often. At this point I haven’t found the culprit but the u joints are one of them.

In that case I really doubt it's your ujoints. I have had them go bad more than once... not sporadic. Constant and gets worse with speed.

Read up and listen to every word gearcruncher says. He knows more than most.

Not sure if this is still an issue or not, But I had a similar issue with my truck. It ended up being the cold air intake tube where it enters the fender. There is a foam rubber gasket between it and the hole it goes into. When I would put the truck in reverse holding the brake, the engine would torque in the opposite direction causing the hard plastic air cleaner inlet tube to vibrate against the steel around the hole. Removed gasketing around the tube and replaced with some inexpensive weather stripping I had on hand as a test.
It has been there for over 3 years now and the noise hasn't come back.
Not sure its the same issue for you but thought it might be worth a look.

TuRD man and I had the same issue. I noticed the vibration in reverse and i found out it was the foam gasket that was not correctly in place. I put a little piece of a towel where it vibrated and the sound has not come back. It also was only happening when stationary in reverse.

after you fix the ujoints, install a shim on the axle. the lift changes the angle and wears out the ujoints rather quickly.
