They may not be the only source but being in SoCal and knowing Kartek has been around a long time it is the first place I looked.

Nah. The rest of the frame is still a noodle. Cage is the single best performance mod anybody will ever do.

Any tips on fixing smooshed threads on a cv axle? Just the first two or three where someone beat on it a bit or dropped it. Thought about taking a flap disk and grinding them out, but wanted to check with the class first :pccoffee:

I just tapered the end of the axle with a grinder to get rid of the bad threads for a buddy. Still had plenty of thread protrusion from the nut after it was installed.

Seemed like a good idea to me too, but I’ve had so many bad ones in my life I like to double check with others when I can :D

Same. I dropped a shaft off my work bench this spring and ground out the bad threads.

Build thread in sig... 4-link long travel
Amongst my drawers and boxes of thread files and dies, I find myself reaching for this thing if it's just a dinged thread or two. Works wonders with a halfway steady hand and die grinder.

This and the lower control arm mount kit is paramount. Do these two mods first. Then spindle gusset with double shear steering tabs and upper control arm double shear kit. The way JDFab has created a solid foundation platform (the lca mounts) that can be built upon is a key element to why choose to use them.

I ran the jd Howe pump on mine, and yeah it's definitely better, but for the price, I gotta say I wouldn't be putting it first on my list... I know that's against the grain in this thread.

IMO lots of guys did the pump at the same time as the slide rack and attribute lots of the feedback going away as the pump. But, I agree. It isn’t an “omg” mod by any means.

Reality is, most feedback is coming from clapped out racks. While the pump can help it’s not the biggest change. The amount of flex in the TWO mounting locations for the factory rack is the main issue. And when things clap out it gets even worse.

I also think most guys who did it, myself included, already had long travel, 35+ tires, etc etc. and were looking for the next thing, and at that point, the pump is sweet, but definitely not before imo

Have you considered creating a roller? Especially for those that have rusted out frames or making the purchase of a rusted out frame truck a possible good option? An improved frame with a linked or spring under rear, rear mounted fuel cell, stock engine or V8 engine mounts, stock IFS or TTB option?

Not everyone can or wants a full cage... but a
Improvements for a daily to offroad quite a bit better with a stiffer frame are available and new ideas brewing
