Tailgate QC issue on 4th gen?

So we were at my son’s soccer practice unloading everything today and long story short, when raising it back up, it came completely off the hinges on the right side. Thankfully it was easy enough to get back into place, but a small part of the left side took some nice paint damage that I had to use a touch up pen on.

Has anyone else experienced this yet? I’m wondering if this is a quality control issue or maybe we had something in the way we didn’t see when closing it up and popped it out of place, but I feel like that shouldn’t happen, lol.

 

The tailgate is removable, maybe you were pulling outward on the way up.

 

Very possible it may have happened. My kid was helping with some stuff so he may done so when putting it back up. Thankfully we were able to grab it and pop back into place before anything worse happened, lol. Appreciate the feedback.

 

Sounds like a design issue.

 

Hasn’t happened with the Taco yet, happened often with my Sierra. Especially if crap falls between the tailgate and the box, it forces the tailgate up when closing so it comes off the right hinge.

if you put a tailgate anti theft ring, it won’t happen again.

 

You can also put on an inexpensive old fashion worm hose clamp

 

arn't all tailgates designed that way?

 

It's the same design as on your 2021.

 

I've never had mine fall off.
