    Hello everyone,
A.T. Hun here. I’ve got an appointment to drop off my 2012 Tacoma PreRunner DCSB TRD OR on Thursday at a local and reputable garage here in Macon, GA for the new wheels and tires to be installed. I sourced everything individually thanks to help from TW members and their posts.

My current set up is the stock TRD OR 16” wheels with 265/70/16 HT tires.
    I found the TRD SEMA/ 4 Runner wheels, part# PTR20-35110-BK on sale during a July 4th sale for $814.00 for a set of 4!

I purchased (4)Nitto Terra Grappler 265/70/17 ATs for a more “aggressive” off road look that will allow me to do light off roading but I can still drive on the highways.

I also purchased the Toyota black lug nuts, part #PT076-60200-02 as well as a Gorilla Wheel lock set for Toyota/Lexus, part #73631TBC.

Based on my searches here on TW, it’s my understanding that my TPMS sensors will transfer over since I’m going from one OE aluminum wheel to another.

Here’s where I need some clarification on whether, “I need anything else ?”
The owner of the shop that’s doing the install said that some TPMS sensors have a nut that allows you to separate the TPMS sensor from the valve stem for easy removal. He said other sensors you have to snap off the valve stem from the sensor and sometimes they break and a new valve stem has to be installed. Has anyone else been told this as well? I’m guessing this is standard practice. Please chime in if it’s not the case.

For those of you with these TRD wheels, do I need to get new black metal valve covers for the wheels to protect the valve stem? I looked on my OE Toyota wheel setup and it does have silver metal valve covers on them. I’m guessing this is to keep dirt and debris from messing up the sensors? Is there anything else I need? I just want to have everything available for the swap as I’m dropping it off early in the morning on Thursday before heading out to work.
Thank you for any and all replies!
    Best, A.T.Hun

The OE TPMS come apart so there should be no issues. Make sure they replace the oring and grommet with new ones and you should be good to go.

Thank you for the reply and information, GTM1969! Very much appreciated!
This is the first wave of mods to my Tacoma to make it “new again” for a couple of years instead of buying a newer 5.7 Tundra or LandCruiser. Used truck market prices are InSaNe as are the accompanying interest rates.
