I have a buddy who is leaving for a few months.
And is wondering if he can use the Short Pin to disable the truck while away. To prevent theft of the vehicle itself.

I don’t think a thief would carry relays or a very expensive “short pin” to attempt to steal his truck.
    Or would they?

A standard fuse or a pice of wire would bypass that easily. It can’t hurt but it’s still far from foolproof if the thief wants the truck.

If a thief has time to pop the hood, they have time to steal parts off the truck.
Just disconnect the battery and hope for the best.

I don't believe removing the short pin will prevent the truck from starting, it's purpose is to prevent battery drain during transport and storage.

You could remove the EFI Relay but if they are smart enough they could just stick one of the non-critical relays in.

You could always put a blown relay in the EFI spot to throw 'em off even more. ;)

    Now that would be clever.

Remove the positive battery terminal, 10mm and a 12mm, doubles as a battery isolator.

If they can bypass the immobilizer and install a battery terminal, they can have the f'n thing.

    Get insurance.

    wire in a kill switch.

I pulled a relay on a trip. Then forgot I did that when I got back making the truck unable to start. So I temporarily jumpered it with a paper clip to get home to the relay. As could a thief. If they can even drive stick.

kill switch might avoid that and still leave your key able to unlock and open the truck without engine start. Sounds much better.

If they want it they will get it. ( hint: Flatbed Truck ).

Get some good insurance and don't worry about it.

Exactly, the engine will turn over but not start.

I added a fuel pump kill switch three years ago. I wanted it for added security when parked at trail heads, but also use it quite often when parking at big box stores.
