different gears in rear diff, than the front

    i only have enough cash to replace the rear diff gears and do the front in about 2 monthsl
    what would happen?

    Joked aside, if you pull the front driveshaft, it would murphy-proof things until you regear the front.

    Just wait till you can do them both at the same time. Save and be patient. That way you will only have to do one break in period. If you can't control yourself, pull the front driveshaft so there is absolutely no chance of it engaging. No kids or dogs, or whacky old people putting it into 4wd by mistake.

    Things will break if you put it into 4wd with different gears
    But in 2wd you won’t notice

    thanks for the advice, main reason i asked was because i went larger tires and tow
    a 3000 lb camper and notice a differance when towing. have some long trips set up
    for this month

    A friend had different gears in front and rear. Installed incorrectly by someone. When he put it in 4wd, it went crunch and grind. You know the rest.
