Locking tonneau cover that allows bed racks

Howdy people, I have a question for you.

I'm looking for a secure and lockable Tonneau Cover (currently have a BAK X4 installed) solution that will also allow a bed rack.

The BAK has done well ***and paid for itself in gas savings***, but (as I was warned) has suffered advanced wear in a hot environment (no garage, 110+ in summer time), which has included the flexible outer layer receding from the edges, and the "pull cord locking system" failing. Allegedly I have about a year left on warranty.

***it's not a bad product, but IMHO it failed prematurely with light use for the price***.

Also looks like on another thread that the BAK warranty process is not great, but I'm starting the process and trying to get replacement parts for giggles.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/anyone-done-a-warranty-claim-for-a-bakflip-bed-cover.104655/

I'd like a (semi) secure bed locking solution (for guns and bows especially), and at the same time allowing for the options that are offered for a bed rack (probably high mount for clearance and to use the rear view mirror).

Im looking for options, either using the above tonneau cover, or a new one that fits my specs. The important part is that it won't open like butter on a warm day, and act as a secure compartment for firearms in case I get stopped, and other reasons outlined below.

I have access to a tow trailer, and I'm looking at a cab rack as well later on (don't care if stuff matches).

I'm mostly concerned about a (semi) secure area that I can store bug out gear, medical supplies, bow/guns etc that will perhaps dissuade or slow down any theft attempts while I'm hiking away from my vehicle/parked in a higher risk area. I'd like to avoid a hard top if possible due to "weird shaped equipment" hauling that would not be compatable with a "semi permanent" installed solution.

While this is not primarily a "work vehicle", I'd like to preserve what little internal bed volume I have, as I work with local community medical outreach (free CPR and First Aid lessons-dont steal my stuff), first aid volunteer Search and Rescue (don't touch my ropes...and don't steal my stuff).

I'm not running a tool box.

    ***Other Points:

I'm running a stock 2019 TRD Off Road with 70k miles. I only bought the tonneau cover. My next upgrade is some armor underneath. I have no aftermarket lift, wheels, tire upgrades (replaced stock tires for...thestock tires) or bumpers. It was my primary driver until February, when I got a commuter. I desire no "cool guy" points, nor do I throw shade at enthusiasts. I'll get the other stuff when able/needed.

I'm torn on RTT options, so I'm rocking a few tents. My latest upgrade was a cup holder that could support a Nalgene bottle and a cargo net, which was 3 years ago. I desire function over form. I make judicious use of storage bins. I love pimped out Tacomas, I just can't afford all the cool guy stuff, but I will pay for quality.

I modify NATO Gas cans to avoid paying the "Rotopax Tax" and leakage.

I qualify for Govx, Expertvoice, First Reponder, and most LE and Veteran Discounts.

And yes, I miss my battle worn Hilux.

    End Points***

Yes, there are older threads that I'm getting inspiration from such as this one

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...au-cover-combo-using-integrated-track.770526/

    And this

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...au-cover-combo-using-integrated-track.770526/

I've found that in 2024 some companies have been bought out/changed names/have limited availability, so I'd like to hear about current options and opinions.

    Thanks for your time.

    Non yet.
I have a Retrax Pro XR with Uptop truss full height rack. Easy install and works great.

I too have a Retrax Pro and have mounted a Yakima Overhaul HD rack. I like that the Retrax locks. The rack suits my needs and can apparently hold a rooftop tent but I think there’s better racks out there as far as quality is concerned.IMG_1995.jpg
