    Hi!
I am the proud and persistent original owner of a 1997 3.4L V6 4WD Tacoma. Last week, the dreaded Check Engine light came on. A local parts store employee diagnosed a problem with O2 sensors or Cat Converter. (Despite living in Phoenix the past 5 years, it has not been stolen--yet) My model has 2 sensors. When I slid underneath to start the replacement of the front one, I found an electrical connector dangling from the harness containing the lines for the O2 sensor. This wire is about 7-9 inches long. Even though I was able to replace both sensors, I was unable to locate the destination for this connector. The last time anyone worked under the vehicle was for a new clutch assembly. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'd take it back to the repair place, but I am 800 miles away.

    ThanksIMG_3646.jpg IMG_3648.jpg IMG_3649.jpg IMG_3648.jpg IMG_3646.jpg IMG_3648.jpg IMG_3649.jpg

Thanks, Jerry. I think it's mostly dirt.

Parts store guys are not technicians.
I know, I used to be one.
All you need to know is how to pull codes and sell parts.

At your age, it's possible it's the A/F or O2 sensors.
But it maybe other things too.

Good luck. Hope it fixes your issue.

In the mean time, I'll see if I can find a diagram with the the "blue" plug.

Need to see what the wire colors are but I believe that's the connector for the L4 Detection Switch, it's not used on some models.

Best I got was 1996 diagrams.
It didn't show a 2 pin blue connector.

When the floods abate, I'll hop out of the ark, climb under there & see what I can see

It's definitely a detent switch typically there's 2 on the transfer case. It's L4 for sure.
