I don't know about the VP40 but I do have a VP9. There is a weird groove in the trigger guard that always rubs a raw spot on my finger. I have tried altering my finger position on the trigger and it always still gets me. Other than one issue, I really like my VP9. You can send it off and get the groove machined out of it but I just never have and not sure if it is even an issue on the 40.

    What's the budget look like?

One of the best shooting .40 pistols I have had the privilege of shooting was an XDm. I've owned my fair share of XDs and the XDm was outstanding.

Ever look at a Magnum Research? I had a 1911 from Magnum and it shot better than my high end Kimber 1911. Check out the Baby Eagle III.

Could always go balls out with a Staccato/Deep River Custom...etc.

Would like to stick with 1,000 or less. If something was a bit more, but just truly felt right I would likely adjust.

I have seen the baby eagle on a few sites and wondered about it, but without being able to see it in person and hold it, I am hesitant.

Have any gun ranges locally that rent firearms? We have several that rent and is a great way to see if the money is going to be worth it.

Keep us posted on which way you go. I have a hole burning in my pocket for a retirement gun and may take up shooting again to pass the time.

I’ve owned a few XD pistols. My 9mm sub compact has easily 10,000 rounds through it. I like it because it’ll eat any 9mm ammo I put in it. Only time it’s ever had a FTF or FTE was when I accidentally mixed in 380 ammo with my 9mm. I’ve also fired +P+ out of my sub compact. Spicy.

We were just talking about this last weekend with a Smith Rep. A lot of manufacturers are getting away from .40 since it’s basically a less powered 10mm. With the 9mm ballistics being just as good in some cases.

I get the 40 thing as I was a huge believer in it and have sold all of mine but my G23 as I do enjoy it but it has been a safe queen for several years now.....
