    Break in the weather today , cold front moving in, going to be nice next few days. Sons AC gave out yesterday, it already had a hard start cap kit on it. Going after work to Standard Air to pick up a new system, he is going to upsize for the new addition.

    Sorry to hear about your son's a.c. I know most of us older guys lived without it for much of our life, but I'm not sure how we did, especially when it's been as hot as it is. The temps are good for at least 4 or 5 days, so you have some time to get it in.

    Yea, we didn't have AC growing up. Fans, not ceiling fans, box fans , noisy , some were in windows.... This will also allow my son to relocate the condenser from deck to side of house. I'll probably have to battle the rain picking this thing up today. Poor Taco is going to get wet.

    Morning all!
    Window awnings, ceiling fans, blinds, and trees planted on the southern side of the house. All energy saving stuff we should still be doing in new constructions but don't. The place we're renting now is a postwar style 1951 ranch and it'll be 98* outside and be 80* in our sunroom, thats without running the AC and having shitty insulation. Stuck with window units in the house but it's livable. The same definitely is not true for my parents house with barely any trees in the yard, that place heated up to hotter than outside when their AC went out a few years back.

    All that being said I'm REALLY looking forward to that cold front. Accuweather said today is supposed to be 13* colder then yesterday god I hope so

    Good points. I was much more tolerant of the heat when I was younger. Health issues and too much weight cause me to be uncomfortable, even if the house if 80. I've eliminated much of the trees around my house, for fear of damage if they go down. The ones over my deck are nice but the birds sit on the limbs and shit on my deck constantly, so I have had to address that.

    Yeah the trees are annoying for that good point. My deck and patio furniture are always covered in stuff dropped by the trees, and I'm constantly hitting downed branches with the lawnmower. Should probably pay more attention but:lalala:

    :pccoffee: :wave: PA peeps/wannabes/heat wavers :bananadead:. I worked outside for a couple of hours each of the past two days; I just about melted into a little puddle. Giving myself a day off from that today. Later on I'm going over to my nephew's place to help him slosh through the joys of smart switch wiring in multi-switch circuits. Whee!

    Not to dredge the driver's license stuff up too much again, but when I commuted long distances for work one of the things that constantly amazed me was how many police were patrolling the roads late at night (I was driving home 1.5 hours, around midnight and later). My odds of encountering a cruiser were massively higher at those late hours than they were during the daytime. I made it a point to obey every law to the nth degree, make sure all my lights were working, etc. Even with all that I got pulled over twice in the span of a couple of years. SSSSOOOOOOO glad I don't have to drive that far, at that time, anymore.

    Agree Dave, I work a lot of 12 hr days starting at 3 30 so I'm on the road ~3am, and drive within the law mostly, been pulled over 3 times , no one on the road , guess it's slim pickings that early, stupid stuff like not turning off highbeams , switching lanes last minute...... no tickets but annoying. After the second time being pulled over , cop said another outage ? Lol.

    Same here in MA, I worked second shift in college and both the seeing and encounters were more frequent. Got to where it was blatantly obvious they were just fishing.

    Hmmm, guess I need to slow TF down. I have never seen a state trooper driving to work in the 4am hour around here. No local police in my area, so it's all patrolled by the state which the barrack is located a couple towns over.

    It does kind of make you wonder. I'll hear of an incident nearby and it can be 20+ minutes I'll see a trooper fly past the house in the direction of said incident.

    Like a scene from a movie. This is the old paper mill in Tyrone. I half expected Optimus prime to be on site when I stopped for a pic

    @Lt. Dangle

    I am 99% sure that the upstairs A/C unit in my parents’ house is low on refrigerant, as it was set to about 69 for hours and wouldn’t get it below 73; I took this picture on Monday, July 15th. It ultimately got the upstairs to 68 once the sun went down and has been keeping it there…

    Is this the smokestack you see driving past Tyrone on 99?

    @Lt. Dangle

    My parents’ house was built in 2016 and is probably about 3,000 square feet if the unfinished basement is not included. Despite being unfinished, the house had two vents installed in the basement at the time of construction.

    The 1st floor unit is a 2.5-ton, and the 2nd floor unit is a 2-ton. The house has natural gas heat and each system has its own furnace. Both furnaces and the 1st floor A/C work fine. Neither system has been serviced since before COVID. The 2nd floor unit, circled in red, is the one that wasn’t cooling properly…
