I first heard a slight squeal pulling into my garage today after about an hour drive. I left again to run to the store down the street and about half way there the noise was so loud I pulled over and turned around. Braking doesn’t affect the noise, other than to make it louder due to slowing down. At higher speeds it’s a high pitch squeal that correlates with wheel rotation. This is a 2018 with 43k on it. Not a mechanic at all, so I won’t even guess.

Check your brake rotors. I had a pebble once wedge its way in between the rotor and the backplate. Made an awful scraping/skreetching noise.

Thanks for the tip. Seems plausible based on the noise I’m hearing. I reached in there and flexed the plate and felt around as much as I could. Is there something in particular you did to find the pebble?

Do I need to jack it up and remove the wheel?

That might help give you more access to it. It could be wedged in between that flimsy metal and the rotor or it could be caught near the actual brake pad area.
Try to watch some yt videos , I’m not a mechanic myself so it’s a little difficult to explain haha

When it happened to me on my xterra I just took the wheel off and took the pebble out with a flat head screw driver but it took me a little bit to find it.

If this ain't it check your wheel bearing.

There was a small stick in there rubbing the rotor. Hard to believe it made such a loud noise, but it was jammed in there. Also pulled the guide pins and loosened the calipers to make sure they weren’t seized.
