Traction control light & Check engine light

So both check engine and traction control light is on. 2009 Tacoma 2wd 4cyl. 175,000 miles. Chugs when I start the engine then runs ok a few seconds later but lights stay on. The code reader says #1 cylinder misfire. So a 1) new coil pack and 2) 3 spark plugs later and codes come back on and I still get the same error code of #1 cylinder misfire. If the engine light is blinking then runs low rpm and no power. I’m a hack mechanic at best. But DIY if I can. It advice friends.

 

Put down the parts cannon and do some testing.

Does it only misfire after it sits for several hours?

Are you losing any coolant?

Have you checked compression?

 

The engine chugs at initial start up and then runs fine afterwards. No misfire once it started that I can tell. Seems to run fine. No coolant leaks. Sometimes I hear an opening or closing sound like a vacuum or emission part behind the dash on top of the engine when first started. Don’t know what that is ?

 

wow I just started having this similar issue but it sounds like your is going into limp mode, mine just does it until I shut off and restart then it goes away for a few days
Random not every time cold start stumble at warm 70F , throws code PO301 for CYL misfire , 2012 4 cyl auto 88,000 miles ( only had it last 8000mi )
I will start checking, intake vacuum at idle, compression and fuel pressure ?
I have a simple Innova Code Scanner but it doesnt do a whole lot of scanning compression and fuel pressure ?

I just did a level lift and got alignment which would explain the traction control light , but the cold start stumble check engine light PO301 CYL 1 misfire should be unrelated
I am suspecting a possible leakdown overnight of CYL 1 injector
Coil On Plug corrosion (less plausible because it usually exhibits at high rpm)
Worse case scenario would be a CYL 1 compression problem, which causes problems at cold start with the Idle Air Control device
I found another post from 2020 with the exact same symptoms but no follow up,( I guess he got it fixed and didn't need our help anymore)
I am just starting to troubleshoot, will let you know if I find anything

 

No, OP is in Fail Safe mode.
He needs to address the coolant "leak" and focus on the cause of the misfires. (which isn't the coil or plug)
