Welcome! OEM oil filters are generally considered best. I don't have any specific oil recommendation. I last used Mobil 1 and it seems fine.

My tip is to be sure you drain the oil pan, not the transmission. Yes, it happens more than you'd guess.

Whatever 0-20 is on sale is fine.

Be sure you reassemble the filter housing correctly as well, so you don't spring a leak

It looks like that video is about metal/can filters, which 3rd gen tacomas don't use. We use the the paper replacement filter elements, for which, OEM is the common recommendation.

    Welcome to TW

I think more than anything with oil and filters is to be good about changing them at the recommended mileage or before. I still own my 1986 Toyota pu (bought new) and I’ve used nearly all of the major brands of oil and filters with great success, I have 362,000 miles on my original motor and it’s still going strong

    Welcome to TW!

The MotivX tools are excellent (filter drain hose, filter housing removal tool). Worth every penny.

Personally, I use Toyota OEM filters, and I always change both the oil and the filter at 5000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first. Opinions on this interval vary widely…I’m just sharing what I do, not necessarily saying anyone else needs to do the same. That being said, I use Royal Purple 0w-20 oil as well. Again, YMMV.

I've done UOA with oem filters and Kirkland 0W-20 and disagree. While that video looks at minor differences in pressure drop the rest is subjective with no objectionable data on how any adverse engine wear can be correlated with teh products.

I didn't mean to stir the pot, I've watched a few of their videos it seems the "higher flow" filters have poor results on filtering smaller micron particles as you can see in the video the Toyota filter has great flow but a hard time under 40 microns. I agree with others have said most important thing is to change your oil regularly and choose what ever makes you sleep at night
