So my extended warranty (runs out in 800 miles lol) covered the compressor only, now it doesn't get as cool as it use too, I wanted to get the condenser replaced as well but they wanted almost $400 for it, not counting labor. Do u think it'll help to replace it. Also what temperature is required out the vents to be considered good by their standard

You need to get a proper diagnosis instead just firing parts at it.

If it's not cooling good it's likely low on refrigerant, if it is then you have a leak and need to find it but without checking pressures and such it's just a guess.
Cabin air filter is another often overlooked item to check.

Vent temps depending on how hot it is typically should be in the lower 40s to mid 50s at the center vent.

The toyota dealer replaced the compressor on warranty but their 15 year master tech said there was no reason to replace the condenser. I've always been told to replace both especially if the compressor goes out. It cools, just not like it did a few years ago.

If the compressor died. With the dryer attached to the condenser on these trucks it should have been replaced.

Depends if there's metal contamination or not, if there's contamination then yes the condenser absolutely should be replaced.
Otherwise your fine just replacing the desiccant bag.

    why was your compressor replaced

generally, you would replace the condenser.

It is old. Oxidized. Bent fins. Cheap and easy to do especially while in there. And covered in dirt.
But folks can do what they want.

All they said was the compressor was out and when I requested that both be changed he came back with that. I'm ordering one today just wanted some conformation on what I was thinking

^If you're paying out of pocket anyway, go to an indie shop. The dealer will demand a lot more than $400 now as the refrigerant has to be evacuated and recharged again.

I am a mechanic. If a vehicle I am working on has a blown compressor, I am draining the system and opening the lines to check for debris contamination. If that is found, I quote the flush. They approve the flush. I do the flush.
If the condenser does not have a separately replaceable desiccant pack, I am replacing the whole condenser. If it does, the pack is temporarily removed required to do the flush and then replaced.

I have a smartphone like everybody else. I can call and talk to my customer. I can take and send them pictures and videos so that nothing is unknown. They are paying a high amount of work. This takes one minute.

As my customer, you would not have “I don’t know”. Or “I only know a small amount of information”.

if that is the case where you go, you should probably stop giving shitty businesses a reason to exist.

in many shops, a video is required on every vehicle. In addition to an advisor that is supposed to be competent.
And a technician that is writing in detail in the report, a description of their diagnosis and repair.

am I gonna throw a new condenser at my truck for no reason? Yes. It is $70. That is piss in the wind. This is a vehicle being kept and relied upon not thrown away tomorrow.
The factory one is 10-20yo and looks like it was thrown down a mountain. Parts of that age and wear do not perform new.
