I'd say to any new owner... once the truck is bought, use it. See how it works for you, and go from there...

Make needed changes as these are necesary.

Don't waste $$ on crap you dont need...

Some modifications for me were necessary (enough). My dashcam "dongar" cable eliminated the long power cable. I sweat during summer hikes so wanted seat covers to protect. Rubber bed pad ... keeps things from sliding. Tailgate lock from Sabello ... prevent theft. All reversible easily.

Skid plates ... I bought it to go off-road. Knew I would need *something* eventually.

Stiffeners, VLEDS ... OK, you got me there ... cannot truly justify but easily reversible.

Bed cover if it meets your use case needs

Other stuff on your list is fluff. Hold off until you are convinced they are must haves

Pro tip. Learn the difference between the transmission and oil pan drain plugs. So you don't drain the trans attempting to do an oil change

I have two LED "bulbs" left over from my last car. Anything on the Tacoma take a #561, 562, or 567 bulb?

My tailgate has a lock, but I have to use the key to operate it. Not the end of the world since if I'm going into the bed, I'm back there anyway, so how hard is it to unlock it? The convenience of a remote electronic lock would be nice though.

The tailgate lock I refer to prevents the tailgate from being lifted out ... thieves can lift it out in 20 seconds. These locks cover the "lift-out" junction on the passenger side.

The electronic lock for opening the gate itself is not something I have found necessary ... not to say that it cannot be useful, just that I have not paid for it.

Ah, ok... I thought I saw some people just using a hose/band-clamp for that purpose. Seems simple enough, though it can be defeated with a screwdriver. At least it prevents quick grabs. I suppose just locking the tailgate does that as well.

Screwdriver and a hammer can defeat the key-lock or electronic on the tailgate. Something to prevent lift-out is needed.
