I posted this first on your other post but this one seems to have more traction:

Hey, just found your kits, they look great. Do you have any plans for a 4cyl version? would it be reasonable condsidering the different configuration in comparison to the V6? I currently have some bent over mesh for the critter hole, definitely a lack complete execution on Toyotas part, they seemingly intended to have something there. Your solution is awesome, nice work and thanks for being in business.

Thank you for your kind words!
As for the cowl intake on a 4cyl, I don't have plans yet. I don't have access to one right now.
If it is 2005-2015 4cyl, the HVAC screen should definitely fit. Send me a picture of the cowl opened up and I can tell you.

Cool idea but sorry the mice and squirrels down in my woods will eat any plastics.. I once had those plastic porch post solar led toppers, they made a tastey meal out of them.

Recently installed cowl HVAC screen and cover kit.

Since my local car wash was rebuilt and different dryer blowers installed I'd get water in through the intake wetting the filter and dripping on passenger floor.

    Installed kit...problem solved.

Excellent installation instructions, well made product. Ordering process and shipping was terrific.
Highly recommended, Dan was great to order from.

What's going on w/ the bowed-out long spacer in this photo?

Is this an installation error, or more like a long-term design flaw? It would seem to me that the hex-shaped material in that long/thin form factor is not going to have much longitudinal rigidity. Should/can this part be re-designed to be a solid piece instead of the open-weave hexagonal form it is currently in?

    Separate question for OP:

The current material used for your products is PETG. I'm no expert on 3D printing materials but from what I gather in 30 mins of review of the many types of filaments, it is a good general-purpose material but not considered "high performance" as far as strength & long term durability.

My 2nd gen is 10 years old & (god willing, no accidents,) I hope to keep it at least another 20+ years. I don't know PETG that well but just the photographs of it, with the high surface sheen and the word "glycol" in the chemical formula, lead to me wonder whether it will be subject to hardening & long-term cracking due to gradual off-gassing/degradation of the flexible element in the polymer. (Many, but not all plastics do this.) I'm talking 8-10+ years out. UV protection isn't an issue w/ the kit but I imagine in summer/full sun, even being protected under the main cowl, the kit parts could see extended temps in the 120ÂşF range, which would tend to accelerate any tendency toward age-related embrittlement.

Subject to the abilities & limitations of your 3D printing equipment & process, have you considered offering higher-spec filament options as an upgrade for these parts? There are a great many possible filaments, I'm not sure which would be the appropriate balance of cost vs. improved strength / long-term durability, but I'd think something with glass and/or carbon fiber additive might help long term durability.

Not suggesting these specific products below, but the website has a large variety of higher-performance filaments for sale, neatly-organized in the left-side menu. Please review them & comment on what the increased cost might be for some kind of glass-reinforced or carbon-reinforced filament would be.

I'd consider paying as much as +30 to +50% of the kit cost for an upgraded material (3D printing filament) option.

Both an Install error and 1st design that was revised. over tightened. I have revised photos on this thread somewhere

DPele revised the part as well and works great now.

Yes the design has been updated since! The hex style is still there to match the kit but it is a solid piece. Much stronger now!

Thanks for your message and observations! I use PETG mainly for chemical and heat resistance. To keep things relatively short, yes plastics will degrade and eventually break. Thankfully these parts aren't taking any loading or everyday "use". I have some phone/HAM radio mounts in my truck that have lasted over 2 years without any fatigue. I've used them in -45*C to +45*C conditions. I'd say it's pretty impressive.

Moving to such a crazy material would drive my costs out of the market. Those materials you provided have to be printing with special machines that can reach much higher temperatures. I have heard nothing to frustration printing with nylon filament (PETG is bad enough). This would increase my print fail percentage up higher which increases my costs and price. Quickly altering my calculation sheet shows over double the price for my cowl intake kit. I can guarantee I cannot beat less than a 50% price increase. Not to mention I would need to purchase all new printers. This is simply not achievable for the company right now. Another thing to add is, printing with carbon or metals, it greatly increases part wear and tear (even with hardened nozzles).

I look at this option similar to the people who buy aircraft grade hardware for their daily driven vehicle. Is it worth it? Probably not.

I hope this clears up any questions.
I believe providing my customers with my specked-out materials will be perfectly fine for the application.

Sub-a-dub-dubbed. I live in an urban forest. Been fiddling with various screening concepts. So tired of cleaning out the amazing amount of debris that gets through the cowl and into the side fenders, where it turn into topsoil if not attended.

To install the Cowl intake, you need to keep the stock air filter box.

Here is a SC with a stock intake. Red sketch is how the Cowl Intake would be installed.
    Screenshot 2025-02-11 133536.png

Cold Air Intakes will not allow the Cowl Intake (red sketch) to be installed because the factory (blue sketch) is missing.

I didn't realize the SC would work with the stock intake. Suddenly it's that much more appealing.
