My 2020 Wrangler Unlimited had 65,220 miles with suspected shuddering referenced in this thread; it was absolutely stupid no codes and extended warranty would not cover anything without code or major failure. Traded it for a different vehicle.

As far as I know that is one of the years that the TC actually breaks internally sending debris through the tranny and clogging the filter screen. Then the entire tranny needs dropped, flushed and cleaned thoroughly, and then a new TC. $1200 to 2k repair. I have never been more disappointed than when the perfected 4.0 I6 setup disappeared from Jeeps in 06. Nothing since then (as far as vehicles are concerned) has utterly disappointed me more.

I had the dreaded shudder and took it to Toyota for repair ($6500)…problem was the torque converter. Anyone know if there is a pending class action lawsuit for this issue??

get a second opinion on it. Not my Tacoma my old Mustang had the shudder Ford told me trans issue. Went to different Ford dealer they said it’s the trans mount. Had it replaced and shudder was gone.

Just got a shudder started last week rough at 19mph and 26mph at light throttle 140k miles. Dealership said it the TC $3600 and possibly a transmission at 6k+ they won’t confirm transmission u til they take the TC out and can look at it.

I have a mild converter shudder in some gears at super low rpm. Does it periodically, gonna change the trans fluid and see if that helps. If not oh well, truck had a 100k mile warranty when I bought it, not sure if I voided that or not though lol

My 2023 has the shudder with just under 30k. Was there basically from the start.

OTT tune and premium fuel makes it all but disappear. Shudders bad with regular though

No, the dreaded TC shudder happens usually while accelerating.

    None since I tuned it.

It's been a while since I have been on here but I just got this back from the dealer today for the tc, same issue as everyone else has posted. I have the ov flash and have had for years, obviously I don't want to spend 4k on a TC, I could smell what spelled like clutch burning, is a flush really a solution for this or should I fork over the cost of the repair; most likely not from the dealer

I had the TC shudder at 112K miles (2016 with automatic transmission). A drain and fill fixed it for me. I had my issue diagnosed and fixed at a dealership for about $350. I think I've read just about every post on TW about TC shudder. Some folks said a drain and fill with Shudder Fix worked for them. I asked the dealer if they also added Shudder Fix in my truck and they said no. After it was fixed it took me months to stop driving with one eye on the tach and the other on the road.
My TC issue was at the 20-40mph range / 1200 - 1500 RPM when coasting because the transmission up shifted to save gas. I'd feather the throttle to maintain speed and the truck felt like I was running over a rumble strip. If I accelerated harder the transmission down shifted and there was no shudder. I could get around it by manually shifting. Using ECT minimized it. I never smelled transmission fluid or noticed any other symptoms other than the shudder.
There's a brake tap test to check for TC lock up. This post describes the brake tap test: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...sion-shudder-any-advice.772383/#post-27588697

On a side note, the dealer said there was a TSB for the transmission which they did. It's a bit subjective, but IMO the truck is much more behaved with shifting. The random downshift when coasting downhill is almost completely gone.

When I shift manually I have no issues, I have been fighting toyota on this truck since I bought it and have about 10 visits with the same issue that they always said was normal....I might push the issue again z mine started around 100 miles

I reported issues with my truck starting at mile 48, I have records about a vibration with about 10 to 15 visits to the dealer, I might push toyota on this

Dealership advisor told me this is very common at this mileage 140k!!! I was about to slap him, if this what Toyota reliability is now is probably better off buying a freaking ridgline.
