    ^Thanks

Took the truck around the block, down the street and far enough from home to make me nervous. Stopped at the gas station to fill up and the truck caused a bit of a stir…lots of questions.

Truck did all right…so far there have been a few teething issues but it hasn’t left me stranded…yet

Spent most of today running through the valves again.. will see tomorrow if the tick has disappeared.

    ^^^^^^

"far enough from home to make me nervous":rofl:

Good deal, nice to hear you are finally getting on the road - I bet it feels satisfying after all the hours of work you put in. Enjoy some summer cruising now.

^Actually it’s terrifying… waiting for things to fall off :D

Spent the better part of a day adjusting valves.. think I’m happy with where they are. Adjusted the shifter cable in an attempt to get consistent reverse.

Also not happy with the painless ignition switch… at times the barrel rotates in the housing and the contacts aren’t that great. Ordered a Ron Francis is07 switch… hopefully it’s better quality than the painless.

Had the alternator plug pop out. It’s a samurai alternator with an eBay plug and the fit could be better.. will need to keep an eye on it. Not sure how to enhance the fit.

Got the hood on… will see what that does to engine temps.

So far the trucks doing pretty well.

Took the truck to the local coffee shop and when I got back it was leaking from the water pump.. I forgot to tighten the hose clamp that runs from the pump to the intake on a bbc… so as I do… I forgot to check the other clamps.

Went to a local car get together which is roughly 25min each way of highway travel.

More self inflicted issues… overflow hose clamp was of course loose…and the passenger side valve cover is weeping… will tighten it down tomorrow.

On the plus side it ran around 180-190 at highway speeds and sitting in traffic, plus it has 20psi of oil pressure at idle when hot.

Truck got a fair bit of attention and at least a few people were taken with it.

    Just as a data point:

I replaced all the hoses & clamps on an old truck, later noticed a leak - clamp was loose...

Another leak -- another loose clamp.

    Repeat, repeat

I had bought a box of clamps at the parts house and they were made overseas, every one needed tightening.

The US made Ideal brand clamps I installed the same day never needed to be tightened.

thread revival.... I'd sort of left this thread alone but it's actually been a crazy role the last 2 months.
    Quick recap:
Truck started to run like junk, went to a single 4 barrel for simplicities sake.
Turns out 1 of my 2 vacuum lines had a leak
New 750 holley had float bowl issues that diluted the oil with fuel.
Yank motor, new cam, lifters, pushrods, timing chain, cover, oil pan, pickup, aluminum heads, TCI breakaway torque convertor, B&M deep pan, B&M sfi flexplate ...etc
Fedex lost 1 of the new heads which ended up taking 3 weeks to get here.

    Current status:
Putting the engine back in and broke an ear on the TH400
Now cutting a bell housing for the first time and waiting on an ATI housing to show up.

    Picture bomb in progress :)

I liked that for the awesome pictures, sorry for your troubles.

Did the diluted fuel damage the cam/lifters or did you just decide to make a change?

Hope you are back on the road soon!

Hey, word on the truck is some good times were had and lots of misery endured.o_O

Replaced the broken bellhousing with an ATI SFI piece and then couldn't set the timing. Turns out the old balancer started to spin the rubber band, which meant another part replacement. Ditched the Holley and went with an Edelbrock 800 AVS2.

After that the truck was running great...at least for awhile.

Took it on an 8 day 1600+km trip through the interior of BC with 30 other hot rods and had a great time. Met some awesome people and saw some amazing sites along the way. https://photos.app.goo.gl/zFmZjm7frfA9wtGY7

And after that...things have gone a little sideways. Fighting a leaking crank seal due to a pcv valve that went bad. Blew out the seal and after an 11 hour thrash to get it back on the road for a car show... it still leaked. Second attempt also ended in failure so now it's sitting in the garage for a bit.

I was annoyed with it after the first failure so I picked up a "plan B"
