GB #1 was completed by @modifyd!

I reached out to Kelford NZ / AU direct and they were more than welcoming to help the community with another GB for the single VVTI 1GRFE. I was told their other Toyota models were on the table as well. If you can get 3-5 minimum buyers they will offer their initial discount and better for 5+ buyers of the cams for the same engine model. If we have enough for the 1GR and anyone wants to pick up a 1UZ/3RZ set for example, I'll see if they can work on something.

    Part #234A 258/258 for NA
    Part #234B 266/266 for NA+ with increased compression/port work
    Part #234T1 264/272 for turbo
    Part #234SC 260/264 for supercharged
    KVS01-24 upgraded valve springs

    Pricing:
3-5 buyers is ~20% off. 3-5 buyers is $960 for cams and $420 for valve springs.
6+ buyers is ~30% off. 6+ buyers is $840 for cams and $367.50 for valve springs.

Pricing has not inflated since last year so please keep in mind moving forward. Obviously raw materials price has increased in the world but Kelford is able to maintain this incredible value for us. Most likely will be shipping direct from Kelford NZ / AU so please keep in mind there will be an additional shipping fee. Please post your interest and questions in this thread or reach out to sales@kelfordcams.com

A reasonable GB end date would be about a month from now so August 16, 2024.

Next post will be the participants list. If you're for sure, just message with your order you would like, ie. What cams, valve springs yes or no, your email and phone number. Payment and final details will be released we're closed or have enough participants.

    Thank you for participating!

@JasonLee Let me see what their sales manager has to say. There's many cross platforms for the 3.5 but not sure it's getting the recognition. I can at least ask.

Kind of what I expected. Similar to what ATI super dampers told me regarding a supercharged 1GR spec harmonic damper even thought they have a 1GR damper designed already. The cost isn't mathing yet.

Per Flynn @ Kelford, "For the FKS we haven’t specifically looked into them other than figuring out that we would need an entire new blank made up to suit the HPFP lobe.

We didn’t go any further than this due to the relatively low uptake on the 1 & 2 GR platforms in their port injected forms & our MOQ of blanks being 100 items.

If you have any other info on the level of demand that would be helpful in further assessing them."

It probably wouldn't be difficult to get 100 buyers since there's a good amount of followers of the FKS. Though it might make more sense for a retailer/business to undertake this to profit and provide some support for the community.

Me too! Would love to see someone post results but not sure how many have joined the NA cammed club. Will work with stock tune but you'll realize more after a tune. Maybe @Torspd have something before and after he went turbo with similar spec?

Sorry. I'm about to be on that nap schedule right now hah. I wanted to ask maybe you've had experience with similar NA cam specs (258/258). Not sure if you jumped right to a turbo spec or what was available at the time you had yours buily. Or maybe you know others that have tried the NA spec cams (and results). My search didn't yield much but other model vehicles.

Two people that I know have dealt with them (Kelfords in general) are @Lucario Runner and @JustDSM .

I am not sure which version @Lucario Runner has installed. N/A spec or S/C spec, but I'll guess S/C spec. Those are closer to N/A spec than turbo specs are. I am not sure if his were bolt in, or needed some clearancing in the heads, since the current engine was purchased from another member.

@JustDSM has tuned a variety of engines with the cams. Maybe he can offer his insights. He has probably the greatest amount of datalogs coupled with mods.

My camshafts were basically 2JZ camshaft grinds. They are large profiles that required a decent amount of material removal, for the lobes to clear the castings. Not for the average DIYer. Those are my only experience. They also required valve reliefs in the pistons.

I've been so slow at my build, that I am sad that I haven't gotten any dyno time in with them.

For the years, I didn't think that the intake cams would even work with the VVT phasers. Proved that they would only a couple months ago. Relative to the amount of time that I have had them, it has been incredibly slow progress. HUGE improvement in low end power versus the "locked" position.

I have a few more things to update before a dyno comes. However, it will be such a far from stock build, that there won't be a good comparison for any singular component.

Thanks for the heads up @Torspd. Very few in comparison have had that much experience on the 1GR and I'm glad you're still building and exploring options. I know it's very capable of good power and I also know how slow builds can be. One of my projects cars sat for 2 years because I took it apart at a time in college. Mainly time and also money slowed that down. Now with the FJ, I hardly have it sit for any period of time. But after the cams, I want to make sure I don't jump in again until it's ground up rebuild time.

And thanks for the heads up..if @Lucario Runner or @JustDSM have anything to help first time cam buyers get in, especially NA models. It would help immensely as I had difficulty finding more info.

I contacted a friend in Australia. To see if he knows anyone up for the group buy, and if he knows anyone with the experience that you're look for. Hopefully some will chime in.

sorry for delay, work has been busy. coming from my experience and depending on what you want to do with the vehicle, will determine if cams are worth it for you. For me as i wanna troll with the tacoma and build a road course 4runner for me its worth it. I would have to change out the cams on the tacoma to either oem or turbo spec once the turbo is on and settled in to make the most out of it. imo for you as of now i would invest in upgraded valve springs, head studs, and maybe even valves. with the magnuson supercharger there is only so much air it can move vs something like a procharger. I would focus on that before cams imo. another thing to consider with cams in the range of the vvti on the intake as well as clearance on the heads and buckets. im sure that has been worked out but something to consider as there are slight changes to each head that was cast. there are other things but im a bit tired from my rounds today.

@Lucario Runner and @Torspd thanks for your guys valuable experience.. definitely helpful! I think we'll hold off on this GB. I was hoping there would be more interest especially since it'll be autumn time and some down time for rigs as they get ready for winter but the performance crowd is a bit different from others.. I know I'm always chasing more power and plenty to work on. Sorry for those that were looking forward to this. Tried my best across several forums! Till next time.
