No acceleration, no RPMs, 2019 at 75K miles

Driving down I4 near Orlando last week. @ 70MPH, check engine light came on, lost acceleration and no RPMs when stepping on the gas. Steered off the road. Turned the engine off and sat for a few. Engine back on and drove 9 miles @ 45MPH, hazards on, to a friend's house. Mechanic just looked at it and said there are some issues with these Tacomas where there is a disconnect between the cluster and the computer. He has codes and is going to research it more. He is a mechanic (friend of a friend) but there is a language barrier. Anyone else experience something similar? First issue ever with truck, have about 75,000 miles on it.
