    Hi all,

I purchased a 3rd gen TRD Sport a few months ago and noticed a puddle of gear oil where I parked. It turned out to be a loose fill plug so I filled it back up and properly torqued the fill plug. Ever since then, I still get a very small drop of gear oil where I park. It appears to be dripping off the end of the 4wd actuator as shown in the picture. Any ideas what could be causing this leak and where to look?IMG_4116.jpg

Looks like someone has had that actuator off at some time. I dont think they use grey RTV at the factory, only red FIPG.

I was afraid of that. I cleaned it up yesterday and haven’t driven it at all, so that little drip from the end of the tube part of the actuator is leaking while it’s sitting. Nothing else is wet besides where the drip is so wondering if there’s something in the tube part that could be leaking?

I don't have a ton of experience with 3rd gens but I believe it is open inside the actuator by design. The shift fork requires room to slide back and forth. If that RTV job was messed up, it will almost certainly leak

Thanks for the advice. I got Toyota’s red RTV sealant and will give resealing it a go

Looks like someone put that gray RTV goop over that area because it was leaking?

Just an update, the leak is coming from the end of the tube that houses the fork and not at the seal. The seal area is still dry while I can see oil seeping out from behind the little end cap/fitting. Not sure if there is an o-ring or something inside of there or if I will have to replace the whole actuator. Any thoughts?
