We are all staring down this same path. I know that was a tough decision for you. I hope you stick around in here and within your other hunting communities cause I know us younger guys look to yall for direction.

now, enjoy not having to be 100% scent free, perfectly still, and perfectly placed for that right shot! My favorite part of rifle hunting is being able to actually relax a little

I will still gun hunt deer, but no longer with my pistol (after missing another buck 3 times last year). Browning BPS 20 gauge with a Nikon scope this year!!!

My very first shot at a deer with a bow (Bear Whitetail) near Altoona, Pa. in the early 1980's resulted in a cripple. Had actually fallen asleep in a homemade stand and woke up to a doe and 2 yearlings 10 yards away. Got up and drew back on the doe but realized I didn't have my finger tab on...eased off, put the tab on and re-drew the bow. The doe had moved so I aimed for a yearling. Watched as my arrow deflected off of a branch and hit it in the hind quarters high. Trailed it for over 2 hours until it started going uphill and over obstacles instead of downhill and around obstacles. Figured it would survive by then.

So, after hitting the buck this past fall and never finding it, I figured that is enough for me. Killed a few deer with both compound and crossbow in between my first and last cripples. Don't like the idea of not recovering an animal that I shot.

I'm also old enough (67) to better realize my limitations: both physical and vision, so this is somewhat of an easy call for me. Don't "need to kill something" every time I hunted like I felt I needed to do in my teens to early/mid-twenties.

I’ve got a diesel with a 55 gallon tank. I can cover more ground efficiently. Just over 1k miles per tank if I’m unloaded :anonymous:

That wouldn't even get me to the next closest state! Sometimes I miss being in driving distance of different hunting areas and animals.
