I was wondering if anyone has painted their traction boards?

After watching a few reviews on the budget boards on Amazon I'm going to give a pair a shot. Can't beat a $60-$70 pair in my opinion. After watching some of those videos I was pretty impressed with how well they did. Yea they might not last for years but I feel like i'll get my worth out of them. No way in hell am I spending $300 on Maxtraxx (for now). Maybe in the future if I have to go through a set or 2 i'll take the plunge.

Anyway, a few months ago I saw a pair of flat dark earth green ones that I made the mistake of not buying that I really liked and I can't seem to find anymore. I was thinking of just getting some black ones and painting them myself. Truck is black and going for a dark green accessory theme.

If anyone has any they painted themselves i'd appreciate some pictures. I figure most of the paint will come off when being used but if you don't look cool while off road, does it even count?.

Just buy some military green TREDs. You'll break them like most cheap boards but the warranty is good and makes it easy to get them replaced.

I know it's been a while, but were you able to try painting the boards? How did that work out for you?

You can buy the green X-Bulls if that’s what you’re looking for.

I wouldn’t paint these things. I imagine you’d have to rough them up quite a bit (media blasting?) in order to get a solid paint adhesion, especially in the nooks and crannies, otherwise the paint will start chipping with temperature changes and the boards rattling around on the exterior of your truck. And then you have paint chipping off into the snow or sand or mud if you ever actually use them, which sucks.

i would suggest selling/trading/giving away the boards you have, and getting the boards in the color you want instead.

Traction boards are intended to be buried in sand to recover the vehicle. Color probably does not matter much then ...

i would agree. though i don't own a set of traction boards, as i have alternate methods to self-recovery, none of them are color-coordinated. but many more people use them as a showcase instead.

My equipment serves a purpose. The grille my truck came with serves just fine ... function is more important. I shudder at the thought though of having someone in my life who demands PINK traction boards on MY truck ...

Agreed... Or someone could always get them wrapped or Plasti Dip them so they could change the color depending on what outfit they are wearing.

I guess that means no "white traction boards" after Labor Day.

Thread derailed... lol. Just make them all safety orange and move on to more important issues, like when is chrome going to come back in style. Chrome WILL get you home, contrary to popular belief.

As to "orange" ... red and orange stand out amidst browns ... comes in handy in AZ if you want to be found.

colour doesn't change the function so you're not picking one over the other - it's the same.

Mine have been mud colored since the first time I first used them. I forget what color they were before that.

"Mud" is a nice color for traction boards AND trucks.
