60+ year old thread.

Cell phone? I finally bought one last August, only because a new credit card company required me to have a mobile number to call. I always have it turned off, laying on my kitchen table. Poor reception where I'm at, I think it uses my wifi for reception. I've used it at home a few times to call an aunt in Minnesota. Down to two aunts and two uncles.
Off to bed, been napping in my chair.

Interesting visit. The Doctor, the main doctor in the firm, injected gel in my tear ducts. I have another appointment in 3 weeks. So far, I am doing really well with getting the eyes hydrated.

I do not know how many computers there are in the Avalon, but I would guess it is north of 30. One of the reasons why to really work on modern cars you need the real tech tool to analyze what is going on. Most of us worked on cars where the tech tools were a timing light, tach, and a dwell meter. The new cars are basically the same it is just the tools that have changed and are more expensive.

And kudos on the car name.

Good morning all. Off work tomorrow though I am getting paid for it. Riding to Ohio for AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days in Lexington but spending the night in Wooster. Just so happens Wooster is the home location for a supplier I buy a lot of material from for our shop so I got my boss to give me Friday as a paid work day in order to make a site visit. AH, yes, getting paid to ride my motorcycle.....

Yes Sir, high tech computers seem to rule our world these days. And like most any task, the proper tools are required, more often than not, those tools come at a hefty price. I really do like the Avalon very much and have found nothing to truly complain about.

I assume this is the annual pilgrimage to Michigan to visit family, hope I am recalling that correctly. Be safe and enjoy your trip.

 

Depending on on how much mud washed down the street and how much those orange drain filters are clogged with debris , maybe over an hour . My neighbors driveway usually gets flooded and has had water damage inside the garage

This has been an ongoing issue / problem with the builder who built these homes now going on 3 years now . The storm drains are over a few inches above grade to work effectively . The street has all the man hole covers at least 5" above grade as we're still waiting to have the street paved to grade

As after any heavy rain the streets are covered in mud in mud . And yesterday.they had a crew with a front end loader scraping the street and removing the mud . They even cleaned the filter screens on each storm drain

Picked up a 9mm, semi-auto this late Spring. I do need practice, not used to handling a pistol. Been out now only four times to the range a few miles away. Been shooting 50’ from my splatter target, I believe I should be out 10 to 30 feet. I critique myself when I get home and forget that I need to hold the pistol in a certain way and I’m not doing that. I even took an empty Coleman fuel can with me this time, hitting it a few times. Seems I shot low yesterday, don’t know why, if anything, I thought I would shoot high. I am having a tough time for some reason(old eyes?) seeing the white dots on the sights. I need to research laser sights or something more easily focused on. On a camping trip this Spring with some of the other Coleman collectors, they recommended I take a CCW class, but no one does that anymore here. I’ve only gone thru 100 rounds so far. Picked up a speedy loader for the magazines as I was having a hard time pushing rounds into the spring loaded magazine. Each time I use the loader, I have to recall which direction to insert the magazine and bullets into it, tough getting old.

Picked up a cheap chinese solar wi-fi trail cam last week from Amazon. With their sale it was under 50 bucks.
Works great. Wi-fi works at just under 100ft so I walk down the yard with my I-Pad to get the pics.
Of course the first to show up were these two...

I started another thread, one poster mentioned a fire by Chico, CA. Per the noon radio news, an arson fire, someone saw a person light a car on fire and push it down into a ravine. Thousands of acres burned just overnight.

Duane welcome to 9mm world. I’ve been a gun guy since my youth. Rifles, shotguns and pistols. Was a cop for a short time, a hunter safety instructor and a part time range master back in my 30’s. I go to the range 1 to 2 or more times a month , use up 200++ rounds each time. Just want to make a couple points to what you said.
1) 9mm, excellent choice for beginner or experienced pro. Numerous reasons I won’t go into now.
2) Don’t start with a ccw course. Find a basic beginning handgun course, a self defense course or a home self defense course. Or take a couple of private training sessions from a pro. Generally places that sell guns or shooting ranges can direct you to instructors and instruction courses.
3) Stop shooting long distances until you become proficient shooting short distances. The majority of self defense shooting, 90+ % takes place between 3 and 7 yards. When you are consistently 80 to 90% in the 8,9, or 10 ring then increase your target distance. Keep in mind that shooting someone in “self defense” at 50’ of more is generally not a self defense situation. You likely would not do well in court in those circumstances.
4) Proper pistol grip is of top importance for many reasons especially accuracy. You can find some excellent videos on YouTube instructing good pistol grip. Just do a search for - pistol grip.
If you are right handed and not using a good grip I’m thinking you are shooting a lot low and left. That can be corrected with proper grip.
5) Splatter targets are great targets but they are expensive. Suggest you get some cheap paper targets and practice with them until you get your accuracy. Also when you get a bunch of holes in cheap paper targets, then cover up the holes with tape (cheap painters tape works fine) then you get twice the use of the targets.
6) Magazines, get a bunch of magazines and load them before you go to the range. Pain in the ass to have to load a couple magazines over and over at the range. Get some Magpul magazines. They are about half price of other magazines, are excellent magazines. I’ve used them for years, never a problem. I even use them for every day carry.
7) Sights, somewhat complex subject, lots of variables to get into here. Get proficient with what you have then look into different sights.
I could write a book about all of this but I’ll stop here. I’ll try to send you a personal message in a day or so concerning ammunition, both target and self defense etc etc. Mind telling me what gun you have, model and manufacturer. Message me if you like.

Wow, that's burning up a few bucks unless you have a source of cheap ammo. I'd like to know if you do. I'd go more often if the ammo wasn't outrageous.

 

Check out HSL Ammunition in St. George Utah. I know you reside in Utah, don’t know how close you are to St George. They also ship ammo. Sometimes their selection is a little limited but I’ve always been able to get 9mm. They manufacture ammo on site and it’s quality ammo. Check out their website. Yes my hobby is expensive but it was even more when I was into shotgun sports and shooting a zillion clays.
It’s illegal to bring in ammo from outside California so I of course would never do that. I do make a trip to Dammeron valley UT. yearly and visit my friends at HSL.
