“There is a possibility that certain machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced. In the involved vehicles, this can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or a loss of motive power. A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash.

Toyota is currently developing the remedy for this issue.”

This would certainly explain the rash of engines with spun bearings

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
The ceramic turbo impellers on the Buick GNX’s were destroyed by the slag that was not removed from the insides of the exhaust manifolds by the vendor. Nice people.

Only 2022s are spinning bearings, they addressed it for sure. Especially if you go 2024.

Wait for incentives and rebates. They have to start rolling them out soon to be competitive.

Incorrect, the current recall is between November 21 - February 23. People with 24’s are spinning bearings well. I would not drink the coolaid. Toyota is claiming two separate factories in two different countries has the same exact problem, absurd. Also, the hybrid motors are produced on the same assembly line. There is a design flaw with the engine. Bearings spin from lack of lubrication not debris. Debris scores the sh!t out of your engine.

I should say I havent seen or heard of many 23s and zero 24s so far.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/3-4-i-force-engine-failures.121107/

Looks like its mostly 22's from this small sample.

We've only seen 2 22's with this issue and my dealer is massive. The sky isnt falling quite yet.

I spoke to a few people who have 24’s and had the issue. It makes sense with 22’s being the first to go down, especially if it’s related to the lack of lubrication, lack of oil flow, long OCI’s / using thin oil. Especially if oil channels are becoming clogged. Do you know if there is consistency on which bearings are spinning?

No only saw the one spun, we have another that has the debris but its still running somehow, it's first in line for the recall.

I really hope its a pan drop at worst. I don't want to be removing these stupid engines.

You know it’s crazy too, other dealers are refusing Tundra trade-ins right now. I don’t wrench for a living, but I’ve built a few motors over my years and fairly knowledgeable / into tuning, I feel for your guys whatever it really is. I came very close to buying a 23 vs my Tacoma 2GR-FKS. Dodged a bullet on that one.

Any idea what a shortblock on one of these pays these days? Back when we were doing the V06 / X01 campaigns in the late '90s, I wanna say we could squeak out about 26hours if we wrote it up right and needed to short block it. We'd either replace the heads and rebuild the short block or replace the shortblock and rebuild the heads on the V06 (3.0L in the trucks/4runners). I left the dealer world in about 2003ish....so no idea what Toyota is doing with warranty times.
