DON'T USE GL5 in the TRANSFER case or TRANS. Both have synchros which will wear out prematurely if you use ANYTHING other then GL4 fluid. AMZOIL is GL5 and NOT good for the above, only the diffs.....

The ‘00 owner’s manual specifies gl-4 or gl-5 for both mt and tc, and gl-5 for differentials. Did they change their specifications later?

Can login to toyota.com/owners and download the owner's manual for each vehicle based on the VIN.

IIRC diff capacity is variable on whether it is 2WD or 4WD, engine type, wheelbase, and with or without locker.

    Looks like for my '04:

    FRONT DIFFERENTIAL
    Oil capacity, L (qt., Imp. qt.): 1.15 (1.2, 1.0)
Oil Type: Hypoid Gear Oil API GL−5
    Recommended oil viscosity: SAE 75W−90

    REAR DIFFERENTIAL
Oil capacity, L (qt., Imp. qt.)
Extra long wheel base with rear differential lock system: 2.95 (3.1, 2.6)
Oil Type: Hypoid Gear Oil API GL−5
    Above -18* (0° F) SAE 90
    Below -18* (0° F) SAE 80W or 80W-90

    TRANSFER
    Oil capacity, L (qt., Imp. qt.): 1.0 (1.1, 0.9)
Oil type: Gear Oil API GL−4 or GL−5
    Recommended oil viscosity: SAE 75W−90

    FWIW
    Walmart Supertech 80W-90 1 gallon $18.44
    Autozone STP 75W-90 1 quart $9.99

Huh? GL-5 is listed in the manual for both transfer case and manual transmission.
    Factory manual.

    that is entirely a possibility
driveway has a small slope to drain. it depends whether i am nose in or backed in. water pools up on one side or the other then drains from the box
